Hello, i have a 2001 GT and i have been told that i need a new engine...problem is finding one and also i had a 2001 prelude that i totaled right after $2000 dollars of work and i wasnt going to spend any money on this car, instead i was going to wait till it was paid off and i had saved enough money to buy something with a tad bit...well a lot more power. Now i have no choice but to start up something with this car, i had wanted a GT-S in the first place but couldnt get one anyway, since im gonna start putting something into this car now i want more power then my original motor that the stupid people "fixing" my car cant find anyway, but i can because im aparently smart or something.. ANYWAY what would yall suggest me to get? should i get a GT engine? will anything else fit? could i go with a GT-S with the different tranny? im sorry though i had done a few things to my prelude i honestly dont know to much about em (but im trying) however i do have someone who is going to put whatever engine i do get in my car and teach me along the way......So in essence i would like some help sorry for the long post Thanks in advance

well, theres really no other engines than the zz's that will fit in there. you could get a new 1zz(what u have) and turbo it. or you could get a 2zz(gts engine) and put that in. idk the details of a swap like that, but the engines are not very diffrent(both 1.8). but you will need a new ecu if u run a 2zz. other than it should simply bolt into place. either that or go out and buy a gt-s.

for the cost of a new gt-s engine you might as well buy another car. The gt-s ones runs you more money due to the fact they are tuned for performance, plus the new tranny which will cost you 3000 alone, and a new factory ecu if you put in the gt-s engine. i wouldnt do it...

ok new question...say i had a gts engine with tranny for 2500 total. catch is that the trany needs to be rebuilt aparently to run. as much as i would like to buy a gts this is the closest i could get. how much would the ecu be. and ultimatley is it worth doing this(i cant get rid of this car due to the fact i owe more on it then its now worth) also i tore every tendon in my ankle so its not like i dont have time to sit and work on the car....i couldnt drive it anyway

keep in mind both use e series tranny and will bolt up, your tranny will mate the the 2zz block w out any modifications

whoa.. so ur saying that my 5 speed trans will fit the 2zz from a gts? if so this changes a few things

it will fit but you will not get the same performance, the main difference in the gt and gt-s is the transmission.

I would say the engine is the biggest difference.. they are two totally different engines. None of the parts are the same.

^correctumundo, even tho they are both 1.8 liters the only similaritys they have is the bore and stroke, other than taht the con rods crank pistons and the whole vavle train are completely diffrent, in essence the only thing they share is the ZZ in there names

and yes the transmissions bolts right up

Well i guess given the money situation i wouldnt mind taking the gts engine even if i cant get its full potential, a little bit more power would be better.....now i gotta find one thanks for all yalls help. so if anyone thinks its not possible to run the 2zz with a 5 spd please let me know other then that thanks all.
