Is this a 1971 caprice engine block?

Hi there,
I'm learning more about the non-original engine that is in my 68 Chevelle, and need help from you Caprice/Impala enthusiasts familiar with the early 70's models. OK, my engine is a 402 big block, casting # 3969854. The engine stamp is, the best I can make out, T63Q5CLB11D151198. the 'CLB' is pretty clear, and the '11' and vin # part is clear too. The block is also stmped HI PERF PASS. It's the first six digits of the stamp that I can't decipher. It could also say T0305? It's all scratched up in that location and a couple digits have over-strikes. I have a photo/sketch to e-mail if you want. Got any ideas? Experts to contact? Thanks in advance. Tom

Hi CD, thanks for the reply. So far mortech can't tell me what model car the engine was in. The CLB block was used in a few models, and I'm hoping someone has a specific guide or list of what the first five numbers of the stamp mean. (TXXXX)
Anyone have more suggestions?

there is more info there, but I just did a quick look for you the number is found just about halfway down the page using mozilla firefox.

Actually, no, it is a 1971 block, or it has a 1971 VIN on it. "1D151198" is the VIN portion of the number above and the first digit is the model year. The "D" is Doraville plant, and they didn't make B-bodies in 1971, so that rules it out as a Caprice engine.

Hey, thanks. They say you learn something new every day. It sure applies to cars too. OK, I'm one step closer to figuring this out. Doraville, hmmm time to do some research in that direction. I'm really hoping this is a Chevelle engine - even though it's not correct for the '68 body it's in now! This site sure is a good source - one of the better reasons to have an internet.
