1st, we have the new Beetle woodie:
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/7383/bwd2ji.jpg
Needs much work still. But I did all of that there last night. I seem to work really fast when motivated. Hehe..
There are 2 more VW on the way. Chad(freakmerch) has the bodies, painting them GROOVY:wink: colors. So they'll be a secret untill he posts them up.
I'm not sure about how I am doing the roof just yet. It might be either, removeable all the way, or the front, a targa top. Leaning toward the 1st option. And wheels....something VW for sure.
I might use a pickup bed inside for the back, or make one from wood. The outside is getting woodied though definately.
Some MS paint teasers;)

And thanks to Blip over in the Sketching and Drawing section, here is a pic done with PS

Any ideas? Comments?
Thanks:)

That's some nice scratch work, man. Are you going to leave it a panel truck or open up some windows? Surfboards in the back? Or what?

Panel woodie. Long boards...maybe out of wood. I think that would be so "rad" hehe...

If you're gonna put boards in the back, I'd open up the windows. Throw some beer and stuff in there, too, man.

So the MS paint version on the top looks about right.
The model so far looks more "ice cream truck" than woody
Cool concept, keep up the good work :sunglasse

I know exactly what you mean Bob. There is going to be a roof. Wheather or not the piece covers the whole length of the car, I dunno yet. The front might be a tonneau type deally. But it will all have a covering at some point. You need to start readin Steve!! hehe..n00b!

Mystery part for mystery model. It is somewhat VW. Try and guess what it might be. It's hard to see it in these pics. Chad knows;)

this is just insane and definitely looking forward to seeing it done... for some reason, the "wood trim" on the side reminds me of my good old Plymouth Voyageur back in the 80s.

nice project, i can't wait to see the finish piece.
btw... VW is actually contemplating with this idea as a concept. i have seen some sketches of the up coming VW beach bug concept. is VW paying you riches for your idea? lol

Frank: that's really fantastic: I love the 2nd of the 3 yellow kind, only a design advice: keep the back door down, that should give a better "sport" appeal (do you mean the audi a2 roof?)
awesome, man, really a cool idea.

They are painted. Gypsy is Ford Competition Orange, from the Mach 1. The Manx...I am unsure. It is a custom mix. Aslo, unsure because Chad and I mixed 2 different paints. And I dunno which he used. Those are suposed to be metalflakes in there for teh Grooooov;) The BeetWood will be a CC lambo color.
This would have been too much:

Floor is from junker S-10 bed. Still need to make some kind of rear...I'm thinking dropdown tailgate with slide up glass. Glass will probably be down. And need color...Something beachy...:dunno:
Thanks.

That thing is looking good. I like it alot, and can't wait to see the final product, or yet more progress. Maybe a different shade of yellow for a beachy color....or maybe you could do a fade blue. Start out a really light blue, almost white, and then make it heavier towards the top or bottom, which ever way you want it to go, and eventually get to a dark blue. That would look pretty cool, like the sky at a beach and water almost.... Just some thoughts, goodluck

Hi Frank,
nice idea on the woody bug and good progress.
Maybe it could look a little bit more dynamic by
- lowering the hight of the side windows,
- bending the A-posts a little bit back
-while adding some sheet material to make the B-posts look bent forward.
You already put lots of work in this project, so it is on you to do some more modifications at this point.
Nevertheless, go, go, go, .......
