How to get that nasty film off your plastic headlamps

Hey all, i too am plagued with old worn headlamps that you cant see shit out of... so i decided to try something on my own, and it seems to have worked, and it didnt cost me anything:

i took steel wool (NOT the really thick coarse one, but the one made out of fine strands of metal, strands about as thick as a strand of hair) and some water with soapy solution in it and scrubbed the hell out of my headlamps... i mean i at least spent 20 minutes on each scrubbing and scrubbing to make sure i got it all off... You'd be amazed at how well it actually worked, all this sediment and brown stuff came off, and i could see the inside of my light! :icon16:

Then, i dried them thoroughly and sprayed WD-40 on them and rubbed that in, really helped out. The WD-40 is like a temporary fix though; it'll eventually wear off, espically because of rain and whatnot, so my friend said the next step is to buy scratch remover compound for plastics and buff that on... I haven't done that yet, but the first parrt with the wool and the WD-40 has helped my visibility so much, and i found these things around my house, so i havent spent anything on the job. Trust me, just go out there and scrub scrub scrub... You'll be amazed at how well this works on those yellow fogged up lamps.

Very interesting thing. I should try it too.

Just recently I received a coupon from the dealer for my son's 98 Plymouth Neon for the "Lights restoration". They wanted 127 dollars. I never called them so do not know what they wanted this money for. Anyway, this is well worth to try.

Thank you,
Sam

Yeap, I'm a firm believer of WD-40 as well.

I tried tons of different things and none of them worked that well. The best way is to look for aftermarket asssemblies and replace them. I found some at a knock off place for about 55 per side! Or you can get really bright headlamps.
