I have a 97 s-10 with a 2.2l 4 cylinder automatic, i can drive for about 2 and half hours and i run through a HALF a tank of gas. something is seriously wrong i think it is the Intake Air Temperature sensor gone bad but can't say for sure. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check your Air filter, Plugs, wires cap and rotors and make sure your brakes aren't hangin up, also check your wheel bearings i've seen them about seized in some vehicles and they wondered why it didn't get good gas mileage!!!!!!!

Does it seem to be running really rich? Lots of black smoke coming out the exhaust, or have you noticed it backfiring? If any of this sounds familiar, it could possibly be your fuel pressure regulator. I'm not sure of the specs and exactly what pressure it is supposed to be around on this vehicle, but my brother had something similar with his van. He put a new regulator on and his mileage went right back up to what it should be.

No it is not running rich, no backfire all wheel bearings air filter wires caps everything replaced still same thing so i think it has to be the Intake Air Temperature sensor gone bad. what do u guys think of that suggestion. that is what i think it is.

is it running on the cold side? does the computer think it is? if the coolent sencer is bad, the computer thinks its -32 degrees farenheight, if the t stat is bad, the engin doesn't get up to temp, both will cause it to run richer then usual, but no black smoke out of the back (a dead coolent sencer on a hot day might, but not this time of year)

190 is normal, and they say a small block runs best at 210, we have a small small block (its a 350 with 2 missing) so i assume that the 210 would be good for us also
