'95 APV tailgate lock

Does anyone know about changing the tailgate lock on the Lumina APV? I have a '95 and if I put the key in it the key gets stuck and I can't get it back out. The last time it took me 20 minutes and a vice grips to get my key back. Is there an easy way to change this lock?

It isn't that difficult. Get the replacement lock kit from GM. If you order from Friendly Chevrolet in Puyallup, Washington the parts kit should be pretty cheap. You will have to remove the inner door panel and a protective cover inside that. It's mostly a matter of removing spring clips to get the old one out. Then installing the new one with the new spring clips provided. I have worked on the very same issue with the same model and year but have been using locksmith parts. When my key gets stuck I gently turn the latch utill I find the "sweet spot" that will release the key. While the cover is off is also a good time to upgrade speakers.
