please help

i have a big problem i swapped a 350 out of an 80s full size pickup, and put in a 200r4 transmission, into my 85 monte carlo ss it engages great in park and reverse and neutral, but it does not engage into any of the forward gears, it doesnt even sound like its trying at all, any suggestions would be a huge help thanks
