replacing the back 4 plugs....

I serached around the forum for any info on replacing the back four plugs to no avail....

I have a 98 with a surging problem. I put a new fuel filter on, checked the FPR, and had the tranny flushed and filter changed (thinking it may have been a torque converter lock-up) and the problem remains.

So now I'm ready to go after plugs (and possibly wires). A casual glance at the rear 4 plugs makes me cringe :eek: ...does anyone have any tips or tricks to get to these plugs ?

there should be lots of memos about this...you have to unbolt the 4 small bolts that hold down the coil pack,move this around to get to all the plugs ...3/8 drive ratchett,2 inch extension and a ujoint can get this done in about 20 minutes

check coil packs. if high miles replace them while you're in there. napa has them. denso iridium plugs. vitek performance wires. best advice is to buy a service manual. i am gettin one .

I dont think surgeing would be a plug and wire problem. May be though.Sounds more like a fuel related problem.Have you tried the throttle body/EGR clean? Or maybe your TPS? Does your SES light ever come on?

To change rear plugs, open the 2 nuts behind the 4-coil-pack with a 6-inch extension then take the coil-pack off. The SOB engineers put them under coil packs so you can't reach them and have to take it to their robber Dealers and pay $700. By the Way, use NGK Irridium plugs and Borg-Warner wires. The surging is not from plugs it's from Fuel and valves/sensors. Bad plugs/coils only make hesitation/misfire and low power.

try to put ac delco parts back on if all possible. and check the fuel pressure after it has been driven for a while to get it hot(fuel pump )
