could as plugged cat casue the pil light to come on if it is going into a really low idle like it iis ready to die? caue my car was jerking on the highway and when i got off it was jering really VIOLENTLY with the oil light coming on. i got those bosch platnum 2 spark plugs and the mechaic when i had to take it in to get looked at casue felt like it was mis firering and it was just the coil wire. but he said that other ppl have bfrought their car in with the same problem and they had these spark plugs in and said that it holds back the spark on some of the pluggs but mine ran fine for 3 months now. could the car be miss fireing? the car would jerk every time i pushed on the gas peddle and my dad said it might be a clogged cat.. what could it be? any help would be apreaciated!
after about 2 min off highway the car ran fine so i dont think it is missing at all. i read a post about a clogged cat. but not sure if mine is clogged.

To answer your question about a clogged cat I doubt it. If the car runs well on the highway then the cat is working normally. Your problem may be with the map sensor. It will cause issues like you describe although it could be something else. But the cat is not one of them.

well when i was on the highway i floored it to get to 65 on on ramp and it was fine but once i was near the other side of town here i could feel a jerking motion like the wind kept throwing something at the car and pushing it back every like 2 sec. then near off ramp i took my foot off pedle to get down to 45 and it didnt jerk anymore. then when i got to light the car just wanted to die and the oil light caame on. the oil light came on when i started car but stayed off till that time. but the car was going into a really low idle. i had the end of the muffler fall off cause it rusted and the guy welded it back on then when i got it back i heard a diferent noise in the muffler. after that light i pulled into some parking lot and could hear a compleetly different sound in the eshaust. every time i stepped on the gas it sounded like a hole in the muffler. then when i pulled out and acclerated the car didnt want to move that fast, it would get good pick up. when i got back up to the same light the car wanted to die again so i made a left hand turn and then it still didnt get pick up, then all of the suddon it was doing good. when me and my bro where driving in his car the connection just before the cat. had busted the bolts off and his car wouldnt get good pick up at all and my exhaust sounded a little like his when his fell apart. i think it means that the cat is starting to get plugged. so than later on i took the way through town home and it did fine and then just near my house the car started to act up again. eather it is a throttle cable maybe or somehting wron with the carb. not sure. i cant check casue the check engine light didnt come on.

well looked under car and it all looks good so. not sure wut i should check now. can u guys gie me some easy probles that will be easy to check. me and my dad are going to change spark plugs out this week end and see if that has any difference.

If your plugs haven't been changed recently that is a good place to start. If the plugs are fouled badly that can indicate that the cat is starting to plug up. The key here is the fact that it runs fine other than during acceleration. It is possible that the cat is starting to go bad but this sounds more like you need a new fuel filter and I suggest that you have the transmission checked. It is possible that the torque converter lock up solenoid is not releasing and causing it to stall. One thing to try is the next time you feel it starting to stall at a light kick the transmission into neutral to see what happens. If it doesn't stall then get the transmission diagnosed since the solenoid I mentioned could be your problem.

Maybe look at crank and camshaft sensors as well, as if that goes it can through off your enjectors and cause jerking as well.

well when i go up any type of hill the car just buck untill i give it more gas to shift. could this be the torchconverter selonoid?
i still do not want to ut too much money in this engine now cause its got 130k and im thinking about going and getting a brand new one and with a ne trany

It could be especially if the car has been up to speed where the convertor has locked up. The next time it does this tap the brake and then try to accelerate. If it stops bucking then the TCC solenoid is the problem.

it only seems to be bucking after the trip on the highway casue my dad was driving it and he was almost home when he just came around the corner and it started bucking again. so not sure wut it is yet. does any1 know where the TCC selenoid is located underneath? if it is the problem, is it easy to change out with a new one? the EGR valve might need to be replaced, i dont think athat has any thing to do with it but i might check it to get replaced.

My suggestion is to take the car to someone with a trans capable scanner to have it diagosed. Any tranny shop can do it as well as most dealers. The solenoid is located inside the transmission and can cost as much as $500 to replace.

jesus Christ(no offence) that is alot of money. not sure if the trany is going either casue between 1st and 2nd the car does a rougher shifting. like i said when i go up hills it mostly does the bucking between 1st and second gear(25mph) ill have to wait to take it to shop to get checked.

Try this, pull the pan and change the fluid and filter. Put in a can of Sea Foam transmission additive. If you have a dirty valve body or sticking solenoids this can free them up and restore the performance of the transmission. Sometimes things get sticky and the solenoids don't work correctly, Sea Foam will clean these areas and can totally eliminate the problems. Cost is less than $100 to do everything and a lot less than a new transmission.

ill have to wait till spring cause yester day we got 5 inches of snow so it will be hard to get car up on ramps. should i try a synthetic oil cause the tray i guess has 130k on it if it is still the original?

No stick with the Dexron that is recommended. With 130K miles the synthetic may do more damage than good. Just make sure to use the Sea Foam additive, available at Autozone.

well i pulled out of a lot when their were cars coming and i had to floor it to get up to speed so i didnt get rear ended and all of the suddon the check engine light came on. could this be the trotal body sensor? could that have been why the car was bucking before evry time i stepped on the gas?
