My heater is stuck on the next to Hi setting. When i cut it to the off position it's still running. The climate control and vent settings work fine. Unless i pull the fuse, it will run. Oh, my truck was off for over an hour. I started it up and the fan wasn't running and it wouldn't cut on either. 10 sec later, it started running again on its own and won't cut off.

Well, i did some experimenting on my own and i replaced the resistor pack for the heater and that didn't fix the problem..can u believe that!!!! i was sure that was the problem. The only other thing i can think of is the control is going bad because now it's popping on and off randomly by itself.

So Pete, tell me what fuse your pulling to stop the behavior. I'll be looking at a '98 manual but hopefully it will be close. Also need to know if your sure of the fan speed when it kicks on?............Steve

I've been pulling the heater/ac fuse which is in a compartment on the driver's side. I found out something interesting today. I pulled out the heater/ac control unit and disconnected the switch. I checked the leads on the switch and they are corroded very bad. I checked with the parts store and they have it for about $8. So what i'm going to do is try the switch before going to a scrap yard and getting the whole hearter/ac control unit which i priced at $50...dealer wants $163...hell nooooooo. I think the switch is going to fix it though. i'll post results.

Hey Pete: Looks like you're going in the right direction. Power goes thru that fuse to the Heater/AC control unit. Good luck..........Steve

Well my hunch was right. My job has an old 95 chevy with the same control unit. I popped the switch out and installed it in my truck and it works perfect. No continuous running of the heater/fan. As for the infamous resistor pack i installed, at least i won't need one in the future because it's brand new.
