My 93 318is started acting weird and I finally found that the problem was the stupid alternator died. I really need to know some things about these cars' alternators 1: is the VOLTAGE REGULATOR inside the alternator or outside (the little blackbox in the rear of the alternator?) and 2: can anyone tell me if they sell these alternators WITH the voltage regulator or if I have to buy the two things separately?

I have done tons of research but I still keep coming empty handed so any help on this would be very appreciated.

thank you

It is separate thing. Voltage regulator for your car cost about $60.00 and alternator around $150.00

is it a
bosch or valeo equipped alternator ?

your looking into a 150 - 275 range not including your core charge... you will of course get your core refunded when you return old part..

they have alts with internal regulators for that vehichle too..

but seperate your looking in the 90 -150 range for it ..

check to see what you have first ..

you can go here and input these part numbers to view what the part looks like

http://www.partsamerica.com
VR473 & 265103

good advice is to visit auto parts stores online and cross check part numbers on sites and see how much they each cost. you can save a bundle doing so..

example partsameica has that regulator for approx 127.00, where autozone has it for 90.00 .

those are just prices from auto part stores .. alot of people use them for local pick-ups and do not have to order through the internet

pretty general prices i was looking up ...

and if you open your eye's the only thing that was a rip off as you state could possibly be the regulator for 30 dollars more..

notice the price RANGE !!

and what will shipping be from these guys ? 30 dollars ? when you can just go to the parts store and order it for free and have it delivered usually in 2-3 days ?

thanks but they were not simply a rip off ... :screwy:

great... im not saying that they are not a good store..

BBB !! is good too !! that why the parts store are members too...

do they refund your shipping if you need to send something back ? do they offer no question asked returns ? do they cross ship items ?

if a part is not in stock or at a local store shipping is free regardless of price..

rip off ?? i think not !!

some parts are more expensive than others, and alot of times the brands are different too...
