My duals...

Mr. Luos
02-01-2006, 10:30 PM
Not the best set-up for true duals....but the best the exhaust shop could make work with my UMI tunnel braced torque arm.
Better than the y-pipe set-up for sure.
Might consider cutouts eventually if my numbers are low.

Yes...the car is jacked up on the drivers side at the subframe.

Once I get this damned richness solved.

Thing is still PIG rich at low RPM's and idle.

Mr. Luos
02-01-2006, 10:49 PM
Custom job on the duals.

The SFC are SLP diamonds. Fit is crap....still have to grind some down to have them fit right.

Mr. Luos
02-01-2006, 11:32 PM
I have had those subframe connectors on there for almost 3 years now. One of the first things I ever bought.
Just been too lazy to grind down the small pieces I need to.
But with this torque arm...I have to.

I'm so coming over and stealing that torque arm... then painting it red..... but yeah like Dave was saying we were just talking about the UMI stuff last night... i think im going to go with the same torque arm and their 3 point SFC's.... not bad for $600....

I see you didn't go with the Long tube header Torque arm....

Mr. Luos
02-01-2006, 11:55 PM
I see you didn't go with the Long tube header Torque arm....
This torque arm fits Kooks longtubes. None others.
This unit is designed to clear with stock exhaust systems and vehicles running shorty headers and y-pipe that bolt into existing location of stock manifolds. It will also clear y-pipes that bolt to factory exhaust manifolds. The only long tube version header this unit will clear is Kooks long tube headers and Kooks y-pipe.

Who ever did it did a fantastic job fitting all of those pieces in. Looks great. Your going to have an insane top end with that much flow.

Mr. Luos
02-02-2006, 06:35 PM

Nope.

I would have....but I don't see it passing emissions WITH them.

skibum1111
02-02-2006, 07:30 PM
How do they test for emissions out there anyway? Here (NH) they do obd2 testing, pretty easy to fool the system if you know what you are doing and what values you have to change.....

02-02-2006, 07:32 PM
that is a very nice set up... im jelious :)

but that 10 bolts gotta go!!

Mr. Luos

That is next.
Trying to get the current project finished up first though.
I have a friend at a shop that can get me a custom built 9" for a damn good price.

Emissions...visual, sniffer, and they check for check engine light.
Yup....screwed be me.

thought most places just scanned the obd2 computer and that was it. if u put in o2 sims u may not trip codes and, therefore, pass the test.

Mr. Luos

I can tune out the codes.
HPTuners is quite nice.

hey mr. luos, i was just wondering did you ever find out why it is running rich still? Do you still have to program the ecu?

Mr. Luos

hey mr. luos, i was just wondering did you ever find out why it is running rich still? Do you still have to program the ecu?
Not sure.

Developed what may be a new problem last night. I swapped the O2's out, cleaned the MAF and reset the computer.
Ran it for about 3 minutes last night and the headers got RED from the heat.
It appears to be running lean....but acting like it is running rich.

I am getting frustrated.

97cavalier
02-02-2006, 09:42 PM
that is strange, did you take it to that guy that know alot about them, you said he was going to look at it or program it or something.

Mr. Luos
02-02-2006, 09:46 PM
He did. Not sure if that is the problem or it just isn't getting fuel.

Should have some help over this weekend as well. Someone that can tune well. He seems to want to charge beer.
Hopefully this isn't fuel pump related....but I suppose it could be. I need to spend most of tomorrow night in the garage I think.....problem is it is hard to get motivated to get out there after a long week.

97cavalier
02-02-2006, 09:50 PM
did you upgrade the fuel pump when you put the new motor in?

Mr. Luos
02-02-2006, 09:52 PM
Not yet.
I have the new one here though. It was going to be an early spring install. Might be sooner.

97cavalier
02-02-2006, 10:04 PM
ya, can the stock one pump the right fuel amount to that motor?

cuda_dude
02-02-2006, 10:10 PM
have fun with that pump.... might as well put a new rear in while your at it

Mr. Luos
02-02-2006, 11:03 PM
Stock pump should be able to handle it here at altitude.
But I have heard of them giving up on cam only cars too.

Pump shouldn't be too bad. The new one is an external inline pump. Rated to 1200 HP N/A.

look into getting a wideband setup.. my buddy has one on his ws6 and tunes his from his laptop using ls1 edit

he says thats the best mod so far.. i believe he runs 14.7 at wot

drvngstorm05
02-02-2006, 11:27 PM
you're referring to 14.7 air fuel ratio correct? if so, then that is perfect. most effecient and most powerful ratio... i'm jealous of your friend...

That is too lean for WOT.

Nate355RS
02-03-2006, 08:42 AM
I'm pretty sure 12.5:1 is where you want to be at under WOT beacuse of added timing and just the demand for more fuel, and 14.7 is good for cruzing and light throttle, at least that's my understanding. With the stock narrowband o2 the farther away from 14.7 the less accurate the reading is, that's why using a wideband for WOT takes all the guess work out of WOT tuning and tuning in general because it reads accuratley no matter what the ratio is.

That is sure as all hell is, HPT is the shit. Are you in their boards? my friend/my tuner is a mod on them

Mr. Luos
02-03-2006, 06:17 PM
Not a member of their boards.
Just learning the software from friends right now.

I do plan on getting a wideband eventually. Too bad I just can't do it right now.

Mr. Luos
02-03-2006, 07:17 PM
Just got off the phone with Texas Speed.

I am an idiot.
I used the wrong bolts for the valley cover. I used the LS1 bolts which are too tall for the FAST LSx intake. There is a large vacuum leak from the gap between the head and the intake.
Tomorrow the intake has to come off....hopefully that is the problem.

97cavalier
02-03-2006, 07:25 PM
lol, that sucks, it did not hurt any thing did it?

Mr. Luos
02-03-2006, 07:27 PM
I certainly hope not.

Chance it could have cracked the intake. That is fixable though.

Thank god for forged parts though.
If this is the problem....not sure of the stock pistons would have dealt with it that lean.

drvngstorm05
02-04-2006, 03:04 AM
dude that sux... at least you figured out what it prolly is... hopefully that is it and you don't have to do any more chasing...

Mr. Luos
02-04-2006, 10:35 AM
I sure hope so.

It has been a LONG road getting this car the way I want it. If this isn't it....I might just stomach the cost and take it to a shop.
