Ok, if I am backing out of a driveway with my wheel turned all the way to the right, I get this pop or clunk noise that sounds like it is coming from the driver's side front wheel. It makes this noise as the driver's side front wheel comes off the curb as I am backing up. Anyone have any thoughts as to what this is? 2002 2WD 5.3L

Sound like your tire rub the inside of the fender. If you look on the front of the inner fender the black plastic might be folded up the tire will grab the fender and rub. almost like a big version of a baseball card in the spoke of a bike. my truck did it only in reverse on the driver side had to cut a 1x1 section. I just did a friends truck and I heated the fender up and rolled it towards the washer fluid tank looked alot better than cutting it

More than likely a lower ball joint. Also if yours has the rack and pinion steering maybe check the rubber bushings holding the thing in place and make sure its not moving around.

Check your steering shaft. Chevy has a TSB out on it.

Had a 98 that did that, the upper A arm bolts were lose and when the arm shifted it made clanking noises. Usually while I was turning in reverse. Got so bad it started doing it when brakes were applied and released as well.

I have the same problem with my '02 ,but it doesn't happen alot. Only happens when i'm going in fast(10-20) and turning the wheel while hitting a bump.

I have a 2003 Z71 and had the same noise and took it in and found out it was the steering shaft slide joint, which was replaced under warrenty at 8400 miles, someting about when they built the truck some bad grease was put in that joint.
