okokok...

My Maro has no vacuum b/c the cam is too big. It has manual brakes - ie no brake booster, etc.

I was reading a High Performance Chevy today and noticed one of the ads was for hydrolic brake boosters. Apparently this thing hooks up in the stock location, etc, but instead of running off the engine vacuum, it's hooked up to your power steering pump.

Anyone heard of this? Think it'll work??? Bad Idea???

theres electric brake systems now. like instead of using your engins vaccume it uses a electric motor or something. but they are supposed to work amazingly. check out abspowerbreak.com i think they are the only ones that make them so far.

Meh, there's other ways of power assisting, Power steering fluid is highly flamable and responsible for a large majoirty of engine fires.

I can't remember where for the life of me, but I saw a vacuum generating system for engine with cams that cause this problem. But, how much vacuum are you generating? maybe a more streetable cam is in your future? gains, less tooth fillings lost, loss, no more free ass message.

No way am I switching out cam for anything LESS aggressive.

But I did see ads for 2 type of vacumm pumps:
1. Specifically for brakes - hooks up to the booster.
2. Racing vacuum pump, hooks up to engine to increase vaccuum to run low friction piston rings.

I was leaning towards the brake vacuum set-up before I saw the hydrolic thing, so you think the hydrolic deal is bad huh???

Would you go for the engine vacuum pump, or the brake vacuum pump?

Brake pump was about $250, engine pump (without mounting hardware etc) I think started at $600.

Obviously, I'd go with the brake only one.

Because of cost???

Would the engine pump, make a difference in the operation of the engine???

Like would it make an 800 CFM carb with vacuum sendaries work better??? Or do I not understand anything???

Oh, well I thought you after getting vacuum for a brake booster only, which is why I went that route. AND, yes because of cost. What cam is in this thing?

I have no idea but would like to find out.

Is there anyway to find out aside from pulling it and seeing if there's a stamp on it identifying it.

If I ever get the compression issue resolved, and the new plug wires, etc- I intendd to post up a vid of it idling, and mybe of a burnout. Problem is 1: video cam took a dump, 2: Maro hooks up like right away and I can'r figure out how to do a good burnout without a line lock.
