I changed the fluid in my front axle today and noticed a pretty decent amount of metal flakes attached to the magnet on the drain plug. Should I be concerned that there was a little pile on there?

^^Good point.
Very fine particles, like metal dust/mud is fine.
Actual flakes is a bit more worrying. IMO drive for a month or so and inspect it again, to see if there is significant accumulation. If not do not worry about it.

Unfortunately I was a little lazy with changing the front fluid so yes its the first time and my truck just rolled over 60,000 miles. I wish I would have done it a while ago but. It wasn't big flakes, it was like the guy said, kind of flakey mud/goop. I figured that there would be a little with a first time change but I wasn't sure how much I should expect.

completely normal, you shouldn't worry bout' it, rain, dirt mud, all seeps through the axles very slowly and creates those fine particles of metal, or mud......People that go off-roading, or whenever your axles are submerged in water, you should change the fluids as soon as possible......
