89 supra PROJECT COHIBA

I just purchased this 89 supra for a ridiculously cheap price. The former owner was tired of putting money into it. It is loaded and has what appears to be an after market sunroof. This car needs alot of work. The body is straight though and the wheels are worth what I paid for the car.

First off, it runs smooth when it starts. I ran the car after checking oil and coolant levels. Ran it for about 20 minutes to warm it up. It looks like its intermittently not getting fire? Maybe a fuel issue? Maybe electrical? Sometimes it turns over and then sometimes it just clicks aswell. Sometimes when its turned over it WILL NOT START :banghead:. However, when it starts it purrs...:licka:

Anyone have any suggestions on troubleshooting?

I am going to pull a plug tommorow and turn over the engine to see if I have a spark. If so I am moving onto the fuel system.

Otherwise it has to be something electrical or ignition....right?

Pictures soon to come. This is a start to finish project thread...

So it rarely turns over but it idles and drives fine when it does run? I wouldnt bother looking for a spark if it runs, You could check all of your electrical connections they may have become loose/cracked/corroded over the years.
Could also maybe check the starter, its possible that the large wire to the battery is corroded, it happened with my friends car.
Is it a turbo or N/A?

Actually now the car has no fire. Sometimes the engine turns over and then sometimes I hear a clicking sound coming from the right front passenger side (ECU area). I think there may be more than one problem. Any suggestions? Ignition control module?, cam sensor? or ECU? :banghead:

You should take your starter down and have them check it for you. Theres something I read in the manual awhile back about the clicking noise, I think it had something to do with the EFI or something and that it was normal.

The clicking is the starter relay engaging. It is normal. How is the battery doing? A weak battery would cause most of your problems. All that cranking will kill it quick.
