I considered this option too as well for a docter speed stageIII that goes into the fenderwell... umm basically all I could say is go ahead and grab the apexi filter that fits and see if you notice any gains unless you dyno the 2 filters lol theres no true way to tell

some filters can harm your air temp sensor by depositing oil from the filter on the IA sen. Those apex look about the same as the KN.

I hav the Xtreme K&N like this one, about 90$ though..

One of the few images I could find about the difference of the insides of the filters...

umm, basically the apexi middle (reason why its shaped like so) helps the air flow towards the inlet to the piping

Kinda self explanitory lol

btw, XI.. I know someone is gonna say something but have you seen some of those modifications to the intake to where once you have the CAI, there is hosing that goes in the front of the car and has somewhat of a blackhole looking thing lol (hard to explain) basically... just sucks in air from the front of the car.. I've seen one that was used on a GA.. the driver side fog light was turned into a hole of which air went into lol

Something like this...
CAI Position (http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/LocationofColdAirIntake.htm)

Edit: lol I think I just answered my own question, basically a rigged up ram air intake / CAI ?

Ya the Apexi is like the K&N a little, but the KN sucks air fron the end of the cone allowing more air to enter.

this one has a tube that would go up front if thats where you want it.

And yes GA's(newer 99+) hav a generic cold air intake system that suposed to direct the air, but its a small duct that doesnt mov a lot of air where it needs to be.

looking at that, lol I dont see how it could have any 'major' advantage.. the top inlet couldnt be all that big and most of the air will be sucked in from the sides ... my idea was instead of just the top of the filter being hosed... have the whole filter from to where it connects inside the tube that'll be repositioned to the front or where ever you want to place it... thus still having a filtered intake and kinda combining a ram air type setup but the inlet on the end of the hose would have to be made to get as much air as possible...

might even keep the filter cleaner *shrug* who knows... but if dirt and w/e was to go into there you'd have to dump it all out... or you could just rig up another filter before that hose and your original intake would just be clean for the most part... ahh to much thinking lol

think of a hose of a vacumme, and you're running with it lol very fast... thats kinda the idea
