Wondering if I took of Serp belt to check bearings when the car is running. Would that be a bad thing? I hear a whine when the car is running and want to elimate if it is water pump, power stearing etc. or idler/tension pulleys.

It won't hurt anything as long as you only run the car for a short time like less than one minute. Make sure you start with the engine totally cold and unhook the supercharger belt too.
