need help with dashboard!

Can anyone tell me how to get behind my dashboard? Last night i put a ring ontop of it and it slid down next to the windshield then it fell under the black plastic thing thats on the dashboard. So my ring is somewhere back there and I need to get it!
How do I take the black thing off? or...
How can I get behind it and get my ring?
