1997-1999 Eclipse Exhaust Question!

So I'm looking into buying a 97-99 Eclipse. I'm not sure which model I'm gonna end up buying but more than likely I'm sure I'm gonna end up with a non-turbo Eclipse due to the current funds! Anyways, I would like to know some good exhaust applications to look into. I don't know a whole lot about 4 cylinders because I'm used to driving a Trans Am so any kind of input would help!
I wanna have a really mean and aggressive exhaust. I don't see a whole lot of dual exhaust applications with Eclipses, would it take away horses to convert the single exhaust to a single in dual out exhaust? Also I was wondering how many Eclipse drivers run exhaust without cats? And if anyone uses flowmasters?
Thanks for listening and I hope to here back from everyone soon! If I sound completely stupid and asked some dumb questions I appologize!

Do a search. HIGHLY covered on this site.
Heres the quick response I feel like giving:
Non-turbo: No bigger than 2.5". 2.25" has been said to be best.
Turbo: 3" all the way back.
Pipe is pipe. Get it custom done, mandrel bend. Way cheaper, and it's the same thing without the little 1 inch "Greddy" symbol on the muffler. If it's a turbo, get a high-flow cat. If your turbo and have no emissions tests, scrap the cat if you want.

Well, honestly turbo eclipses aren't that expensive you can pick one up for under 4k. I would recomend it to, just because they are a fun car to drive.
As far as exhaust. If you have a turbo car you can do a dual exhaust if you want, most likely it will have to be custom made. Turbo cars are better to do dual exhaust on because there is no need for back pressure within the exhaust system. I know Sphyder one of our mods has a dual exhaust set up on his spyder.
On a non turbo, I couldn't really see it being worth it as it most likely would make you loose power. But like is said before, exhaust is pretty much exhaust. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone using flow masters but that would be pretty crazy.
Maybe I should put some magnapacks on my gsx hehehe,.

I would like to get an Eclipse with a turbo on it but to tell you the truth I can't find one for under 4 grand. 4 grand is pretty much my limit right now and the only thing I can find is kind of high mileage non-turbo eclipses!

Where are you from? You might have to travel a little but i'm sure you can find one for under 4k. Maybe not a 97-99 but you could get a 95-96 for that.

Bigger (exhaust) is better, just ask the ladies.
Flowmasters are domestic ish, and don't sell DSM exhaust, to my knowledge. Even if so, you won't get their characterist sound, since we're talking about a lower displacement and potentially turbo'd engine. Online there are sound clips of Eclipses with different exhausts, to get a ear for what you like.
Popular exhausts include...
1) Apex'i or other name brands
2) Custom made by a DSM specialist shop, such as by RRE
3) Custom made my a local shop
4) Custom made by you
Dual exhaust isn't necessary. It's not a worry about losing exhaust gas velocity or anything, just an issue of weight. Cosmetically it looks nice, but isn't the best performance option.
If you have more questions, search. Or, if it hasn't been answered, feel free to post. Welcome to the E/T/L section of AF :)

Are you saying if I get a turbo and have no emissions tests to scrap the cat and run 3" pipe all the way back without a muffler? Just straight pipe? I won't lose any horses due to lack of back pressure will I?

You probably should leave a muffler on there since it would be pretty damn loud without one. Turbo cars don't need backpressure, unline n/a cars do. Just remember this saying for turbo car exhausts - "the best exhaust is no exhaust."

Use a muffler. I thought that was assumed.

You don't really have to use a muffer.
but if you don't it will be hellaciously loud.

Thanks bro, I appretiate the advice!
My buddy has a 94 Trans Am and he ran it without cats or a muffler and it was mean as all hell! He finally put a flowmaster on it and it still is extremely loud!

You don't HAVE to do anything. But chances are if you don't, you will act like a jelly donut to a hungry cop. Plus it sounds like shit.

Thats where you're wrong, my car has a 3" pipe with no restrictions and it sounds beautiful, I've been meaning to put a clip on at some point....

Sorry if these are dumb questions or if they have already been asked before. I have been searching search engines and the forum and can't find answers to these few questions.
I am looking for a website with sound clips for the Eclipse. So far, all I have been able to find is soundclips with the Magnaflow catback. Is there a site available with multiple soundclips on it?
Another thing I was looking for was if I were to cut off the catylitic converter on a 97-99 Eclipse the check engine light would come on as far as I'm aware of. Where do I get the gimmick 02 Sensor that tricks the computer into thinking the vehicle has a cat. I managed to find them for Camaro's and Firebirds but nothing for the Eclipse.
Thanks again guys, you have all been a huge help!

You don't have to trick the computer. If you take the cat off usually a cell won't come on. I have straight pipe on mine with no worries.
