Complete electrical failure?

Hello. I have a 1997 BMW 328is. This morning, after starting and running just fine two days ago, the car had no electric power whatsoever. Unlike a weak battery situation, I could not even unlock the doors remotely with the key fob. After entering, there was no response from the starter or anything else electric.
Here is the strangest part. When I attempted to jump the car, I got small showers of sparks and cooking cables. Please believe I know how to properly jump a car, but nevertheless double and triple checked the cable connection procedure with manual in hand. Same result.
The only thing extraordinary about my car's condition is that one month ago an anonymous driver ran into it, denting but not crushing the front passenger side fender at the door seam. It has been running fine, though.
What could cause a complete electrical system failure? Could the odd battery sparking and hot cables be related? Wiring behind the fender damage?
Many thanks for your thoughts. -MT

if the car is manual take it to a hill, get some on to push it down while ur inside, as the car begins to roll try and start it, hopefully that works. Worked on my cousins ford capri, or then just get some1 to push it and while ur inside try and start the thing, im not sure what could be wrong :S maybe ur battery has been polished off

I think the electrical system isn't properly grounded. Without the complete circuit, you will get sparks, heat, smoke, etc. when you apply an electrical current.
