I am going to be buying the Magnaflow catback for my car but had a quick question. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE%2D15620&N=115+4294908153+4294907958+4294924760+4294923429+ 4294922451&autoview=sku so the catback has 3" in and 3" out correct? Also is it worth it to get a high flow cat, I have emissions in my state so I would have to replace that when I went for emissions.

you can run a high flow cat and still pass. And i think there is an option on the size, you can get 2.5 or 3. And i think the cat is worth it. Don't spend tons of money on one tho.

on the cat, yes it is worth it in my opinion... i'm using a 3in random technology high-flow cat, i don't have the restriction, but i still can pass emisions so i like it

Plus the cat helps keep Ricer-raspberry sounds out of your exhaust note.

if your v-8 sounds like rice then there is something else wrong with the car...

Definately go with 3" and magnaflow is a very good choice. 3" in/out high flow cat would be nice, but what would be better is getting a 3" in.out, 18" long bullet muffler/resonator, weld cat shields around it, and get tuning done for that, which includes deleting the rear O2 sensor, and deleting COT aka cat overtemp protection. COT dumps extra fuel in at WOT so you don't lean out and burn up your cat. Good for cat life, bad for power.
There's my two cents.

no, it was 100% rice muffler,it was a fart can, and sounded like rice but loud rice, like it was going to bow the guts out of the muffler.

I hate that sound. It needs to rumble all through the RPM range for me.

Well the exhaust on my car doesn’t have a cat and it does sound raspy, but it’s sound nothing like a 4 banger with a fart can.

ya, but if you have a o2 sencer on the cat, you will have to bypass it if so.

Okay, I checked and mine has 1 cat, also I am going to have a muffler shop weld everything in so they would know hot to fix the o2 sensor right

you have to buy a conector thing that conects to it and bypass's it. I belive Jegs has them.

you don't need to get an o2 simulator if you still have a cat... that's only if you don't have a cat anymore...

95 and under(as far as i know) have 2 o2 sensors, 1 drivers side and 1 passenger side, none in the cat, they are before it
97cavalier
02-02-2006, 10:42 PM
ya, that is what i ment, only if you get rid of the cat.
cuda_dude
02-02-2006, 10:55 PM
you can get rid of the cat with no probs.. no o2 mods needed
97cavalier
02-02-2006, 10:58 PM
oh that is right, the o2 is after the cat isen't it? I know on my 95 z28 i only had one cat, but i think in 95 the had and option or something on that because i see some stock 95 z28's with two.

drvngstorm05
02-02-2006, 11:30 PM
well idk about earlier cars... all i remember is the '97 donor car i had, had 2 o2's right off the cylinder banks... 2 cats an 02 after each cat, then the y-pipe came together...
