Hello. For the smart ones out there, I need some homework help.
Ok, the class is Public Speaking (I know, another BS course) and the assignment is too right an INFORMATIVE SPEECH. In other words I have to right a speech to "convey knowledge and understanding".
It can be about an object, process, event or concept or whatever.
For example, the speech can be about a disease, any where to rebuilding an engine. It can be about ANYTHING (got to be educational though).
So as of right know I just need to submit to the teacher 3 TOPIC ideas.
One I have chosen is to talk about a disease (diabettes)
But one subject that i would like to talk about is obivously a car, but what part/process of a car can I talk about (i.e. rebuilding engine).
Any thoughts and suggestion are wanted.
THANKS!

You could talk about overall how a car works, or the emission system ( PCV, EGR, ect)

True...I am liking the idea of the overall idea of How energy is created from an engine.
Its just that, there are alot of automotve moguls in that class and I dont want to make an idiot of my self. lol...Even though I do know what I am talking about. lol

I wrote my persuasive speech for public speaking on why zoos were bad. It was great because nobody really knew anything about it, nobody really cared, and I could care less about it. Made it easy to pick a side and run with it. I say go with something more obscure.

Hmmmmmmmmm.....interesting...just out of curiosity, what is so bad about zoos...besides the fact of "imprisoning" animals.
MORE IDEAS PLEASE...LOL
THANKS!

Give me about 6 more weeks and I will have a write up for rebuilding an engine for you to use ;). Personally, I would explain how a turbo works. Basically no one knows how they work, I think it would be a great topic.

It can be about anything? Then you could do something on the death by lethal injection, or the death penalty itself. (what i am doing right now in english) These aren't "How To" speeches right?
There is alot to talk about, and give speeches about. Think of something that you are really intrested in; and talk about it... CYYYYYAAAA

heres a good topic, "Death by roundhouse kick" lol. Pick something in a car that no one knows how it works, such as a thermostat or an automatic tranny or somthing like that

for my comm205 class, my informative speech was about DSM's. I went through history, present, and racing. Good speech, I got an "A".

Write a speach about the history of the 4g63...from the 6 bolt 1g to the EVO. Give all the good details about what people have pulled off for power, etc.
Or the turbo idea sounds good.

Actually as I was writing my very first post, the thought of how the turbo system works came to me too. But I might stick with the overall working of an engine (a biot more general, you know, for the girls in the class). LOL.
Ohh yeah, this speech does not have to be How-to (Mexrocket), it can seriously be about ANYTHING, as long as it is educational.
Thanks guys.

Make sure you do it on something you already know inside and out. I've only done a couple papers on auto topics and it was a lot of research to not look like an ass. On an upnote, auto topics can be interesting to the class, which is good for you.
For SpeechComm (100 level) I did my informative speech on bottled water. Odd topic, but acutally interesting. Got high grade. For Argumentation (a 200 level class) I did an informative speech on why the Big Three are in a financial mess. Didn't do quite so well on that one.
You also have a time limit, so don't pick a topic that's difficult to cover within your slot. Some simple topics that should last five minutes or so...
1) Why bigger exhaust isn't always better. Lead in with some rice... bring diagrams, etc.
2) Top ten things to look for in buying a used car. Memorizing points is easier, you're less reliant on your notes.
3) The dangers of dihydrogen monoxide. A good punchline at the end of a speech is a sure winner.
Last words of advice.
1) My prof. reamed anyone who put positional statements in their informative speeches. So try not to take a position.
2) Don't pick a topic others might have. If you're the third person to talk about how beer is brewed, you'd better have something new to say, because we're all bored by this point.

Thanks ya'll for the help...I think I am going with the speech on how an engine works...I want to make it interesting, but general at the same time.
I am scheduled in the middle to say my speech, so I hope that the other Auto kids dont do what I do.
Thanks again!

 Yeah, make up a bunch of bull shit and pass it off as the truth. In auto my friends and I would convince people to check their blinker fluid, muffler bearing or tell some one to fill the torque converter with torque. Good times...
