I just installed an alpine deck(35 x 4) in my honda civic 2000 sedan ex

I bought the wire harness and all that stuff straight from circuit city and just plugged it right in without messing with the wires or anything like that....

Now I notice that the whole unit is giving off a lot of heat? is this normal because I was bumpin pretty loud, or should I be concerned?

thanks for all

With "high powered" decks, this is common.
For example, take my Pioneer HU... Before I decided to amplify my tunes, the unit would get very warm when I'd play it very loud.
It's a head unit design problem/hurdle... for any manufacturer's engineers. They're trying to do so much w/ limited space. To pump out more power/sounds efficiently, would warrant an outside amplifier.

I wouldnt' worry about it unless its melting plastic, smoking, or shooting out flames :D Those internal parts get reeeal hot when you're pumping out that much juice. All that heat can't escape very well when its crammed in a dash. A little heat is normal but if it gets super hot to where you can't touch it or causes other problems I start to get concerned.

yeah...a little heat won't harm anything.....unless if it's really hot

my pioneer headunit use to do that. i get rid of the heat by powering the speakers with an external amp rather than the headunit. plus, i get better sound quality at high volumes.

the new alpines.....60x4...

it says in the manual to be very careful when removing the face plate cause you can burn your self on the connections.... and when i take a CD out after long hard play the CD almost burns me..LOL.... but it never shuts down on me... I cant wait to get external amps for my speakers...

thanks for all the heads up on the HU...

now my second deal is this, my HU won't keep the time? every time I restart my ride after a couple of hours the time is all screwed up?

as I said before as far as the wire harness and all that goes I just plugged it into the HU and into the car, without changing any of the wiring, just out the package and into the car?

was that the correct process or did I have to mess with the wiring for my specfic car?

thanks

i would personally upgrade your 12+ constant battery wire and ground wire into something bigger. stock ones won't keep up with aftermarket HU needs.. wire the constant battery wire directly to the battery and wire the ground into a nice chunk of metal bolt or floor(something metal). trust me on this. it's dangerous to go with stock wiring because they cause too much resistance and the wire heats up bad. how do i know? i did that last time and the rubber coating of the wire melted and smoke started coming out from under the dash.
