Sparks and SMOKE, what i'd do wrong?

Wattup peoples, i"m trying to hook up some led's with an on and off switch. I just need some tips, help and info on how to wire it correctly...

The switch I bought has 3 pins on it. It is a 2 position switch(forward and back) that is illuminated. The 3 pins are as follows a ground, acc, and finally the power. I connected the ground and put it on a metal screw which goes on some metal piece on the car, the 2 black wires from the lights I combined and hooked em up to the middle pin( acc.), then finally in order to illuminate the light I ran a wire from the power pin straight to the battery.

Now here is the problem, whether the car is on or if does not matter(no keys in ignition either), the led's will stay on, if I flip the switch the other direction they come off but then the switch stays on! I doubt this could be healthy for my battery..(though the effect may not be harful, but over time???)

I just want to be able to turn the lights on or off with the flip of that switch? Is it possible to do so with this illuminated switch with 3 pins? or do I have to get a normal switch with just 2 pins on it? Also what is the best way to wire it all together? I mean how do I connect the wires to the pins on the switches? As of now I just put them thru the hole and twisted it, but the wires are exposed and I feel danger if they touch each other(happened once sparks and smoke!)....thanks for any and all input and help

yeah i did the same thing when i was installing mines , i connected it to the battery and it stayed on all the time so i disconnected it from there and i connected it w/ my headlight wires so mines turn on when i turn my headlights on, here's wat u should do u should connect both of then 2gether first and it becomes one and then hook it up to one of ur headlight wires ......i didn't explain well sorry but i hope it helps
