I need help on removing my dashboard, I have most of the screws and bolts out. I can pull the dash 3" from the body but its still stuck on the left side near the steering wheel. Im repainting my dash white and thought it would be easier taking it out instead of taping up my entire interior. Plz lemme know from those of you how you did it...I need help pretty quick cause I wanna be done in the next day or two...THNX!

I don't know about taking off the dash, but I wanted to warn you about painting it white... I've driven a car that had the dash painted white, and on a sunny day, it's EXTREMELY blinding. Also, the white reflects onto the windwhield making it harder to see out of.

Have you already removed the cover over the guage cluster and the steering wheel?

its alright, my sister had a white dash in her old civic and it never gave me a problem on sunny days, just make sure its not to glossy, if its chalk white its fine...Yea I have my gauge console taken off and the plastic cover for the steering wheel, the actual wheel is still on though.

I need to do exactly the same thing.

I have to get out the butterfly valve on the freash air intake for the drivers side vent. Its broken, and statys open. (makes for cold drives to work in the morning).

so any how tos on removing the top of the dash would be great.

My friend has an 88 DX hatch, and the butterfly shit broke, he ended up reaching in there with needle nose pliers and pulling it closed

I would pull it shut but it keeps opening and closing with road and fan speed. And having stuck me head up under there your friend must have very small hands.

Leigh... It's really dificult to get the dash out.
When i tried before it only came out a bit like yours and no farther..
So This time when i finish off the dash in white/orange I'm just tapeing it all off. Maybe even removing the windshield:bloated:

I heard its a horrible idea to tape off everything though :( cause its tricky, fortunately im getting a new windshield in a week and can take mine off but I dont have to because im 1 step away from actually getting the damn thing out :):cwn27: :biggrin2: It took me a few hours to figure out how it all works but I pretty much have the whole piece out! it was kinda scary but I remember where everything goes...Ill post some pictures in a little bit of it...

Jeff how come ur never on icq anymore?

I have everything done exept the dash. I added a pillar pannel with a dual gauge pod. Looks sweet!!
I'm just waiting for the store to get in more of the paint i need, then i can finish it!

I am on ICQ.. but i'm usually on around 1:00-2:00 in the morning :bloated:

Oh ok, I went to micheals and bought the last two cans, they have plenty at canadian tire on macleod trail! they have 25 cans of it in the back room and its only 4.99 a can rather than 7 at micheals...dude u should come check out my car...completely stripped, heres a picture i know you can appreciate!! haha it took about 6 hours to get out but it was worth it now I can do my dash properly!!! HAHA im so happy! im gonna be painting it very carefully over the next two days...Sorry for the crappy quality I had to use my video cam and then drop the images down, I really need a digi cam!..

I wanted to start with the hardest part and it truly is, once i get it done the rest of the car will be a breeze...

yea bud its cheaper there too, they have plenty...its just not stocked on the shelves so you gotta ask..Im busy but can prolly help later this week, its a ton of work but worth it in the end...Theres so much to remember like what goes where, etc. But if u need help, I can lend u a hand...Im gonna try and get my dash finished today, im in the middle of clear coating and I gotta let it sit and I'll put the dash back in tommorow morning and see if I can bring my car to rpm, but goto macleod canadian tire for sure!

So far I've used 3 cans of krylon and working on my 2nd can of clear coat, and my head is spinning :buck:

do you know how to take off the vertical pillar part? Its the piece that runs up the sides of the window to the roof...I cant figure how to get it off?

As to your question, take the Rubber molding off and then from the TOP side, Pull Away and it will come off, there are NO screws at all! it snaps in and out of place, but MAKE SURE that when you put it back on, that it is 150% DRY before you put it back on because if it rubs on anything, you will have to take off all the paint and REDO it! i screwed up on both sides because i diddnt feel like waiting, an EXTRA DAY! I was warned and i was foooolish! this piece bends, so thats why it HAS to be DRY! If you need anymore help, i'd be glad to help!

Hey, I am in the process of removing my dash as well, but my question is aimed in a slightlly different direction. Once the dash is completly out, what type of paint should I use to paint the dash? I am changing the dark blue/light blue interior to black/yellow. I have a few spray paint cans of Color Bond Capret Stylin which says it is for use on dash boards, however, I would like to know what paint others used who have already painted their interior as well as how it came out. I had an '87 Supra before my CRX and made the stupid mistake of letting friends paint it for me while I was out of town. I got back and virtually nothing was right. Most parts that were painted ended up sticky. Thanks in advance for the help people. Have a good day.

Rocco
