A while back some of yall where geting on to me for going of the stock tach, I have had my stock tach at 176 mph... sooooooooooo... I boght a after market tach and had to see the difference in the mph... yes the stock is off by like 5 mph... but now for sure I have gone 182mph :p. Oh and I tried to video tape it until about 140 - 150 mph but then I got scared and decided not to do that (bad idea 182mph holding video camera while shifting and steering with the other...)

yea man, whenever I used to go above 100 I'd keep two hands on the steering wheel (unless I had to shift of course) so I respect you putting down the camera... wow I thought you're tires were only good till 180 MPH????
talskinyguy
01-31-2006, 12:16 AM
Tire ratings are for the rated speed for an hour and a half. Ive had 83mph rated tires up to 130mph in a truck before. Wasnt smart, but the speed rating is the max speed the tire can go.

or just keep going....i dont know where you live, but the fastest cops we got here drive camaros with vette motors that cant go any faster than 170, and the driver wont go faster than 130 or so. So unless they call in the chopper...by which time hopefully youve gotten off the interstate and tucked in somewhere non-conspicuously...
or maybe ive been playing too much need for speed most wanted...

All I know on this matter is that some European police force(France?) got a Lamborghini Gallardo for high speed highway chases.
Igovert500
01-31-2006, 04:14 PM
well at that point, their top speed doesn't matter to much, because the cop would have to go 0-182mph, by that time you would be miles ahead. At that point all you are trying to outrun is the radio. Anyway, congrats Red, that takes balls.

Heh...My boss and I were doing 125 in his 04 BMW 325i and passed a cop. The cop slammed on his breaks and that was all we saw of him. We went about 1/3 mile or so farther then turned off and got out of there like a bat outta hell. We really dont have any ghetto birds around here though so we were good to go.

182MPH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn I can't wait to get me a VR-4, this damn SL goes to the crapper after 110mph, not safe, so can't push it.
Oh, at 182mph, like they said, floor it and take the next exit and bail!!!! or your nice VR-4 will be impounded, and those damn tow truck driver will not treat it with love, but you might get some love from your cell mate.
Here in GA, we've got a Camaro, tops out at 155mph I think, thank god we are in USA not Italy, Gov budget is always under funded to support exotic car except for TX, I hear they have or had a Countach lamborghini.

about how fast is a crown vick. I'm not shure what kind of engine they have around here, but they cant be that fast can they?
Morphius289
01-31-2006, 06:49 PM
V8 engine, I have no idea how fast they are but I doub't they do the quarter in more than 15 seconds.

crown vic was tested at 130mph I think by sport compact, but to be on the safe side estimate 140mph, they can't go past that.
How about throwin a slushy at him and finding out........................... :^0

Damn 182MPH that's hella fast, well alot of you are proably who the hell is this chump well i use to go on AF all the time maybe Youngvr4 will remmber or maybe even Igovert but i havent been on for at least 6 months but the first time i post a thread saying i got to 170 stock and still sticking to my story, i did but back when i was young 17 now 20 lol i learn not to speed alot anymore because not having a liscense for 3 months sucked cause i didnt get to drive me baby. That's awsome going 182 maybe one of these days when im out of college i can finally do some stuff to my VR4 and top that, but let me tell ya going 170 stock took a good mile or two but it was fun. If you guys are wondering who i am you can check my photo cause i still havent figured out how to put pictures on my name yet, but go to the pictures of your 3000GT go to pg 7 and scroll down till you see azn3000GTRacer yu'll see two pictures. Im gonna try to get on more often i miss talking 3000GT to fellow 3000GT owners!!

someone said that the police crown vics had an extra overdrive gear that they can turn on for high speed chases... now IDK how true that is, but that's what I heard.

I did some research and the Cop crown vic does 0-60 in 9.2 sec. I couldn't find a 1/4 mile time though. I think the engine is the 4.6L stang engine without as much tuning though. I think it has like 235 HP or so. Thats not so special in a car that big.

Just about any cop car you see (including the new Impala and Malibu cruisers) have an Interceptor class pursuit engine in them. It is a tuned engine from the factory (Ford or Chevy) Its pretty damn quick but tops out at 145. Texas used to have Fox body Cobra 5.0 pursuit cars but they had so much power that they were twisting frames. (kind of ironic that 5.0s were driving 5.0s huh) They then went to Camaros then ditched those also.

the only tuning most cop cars get are larger tranny & oil coolers, they are the same as stock crown Vic's, even the Camaro, and the GT mustangs which we have four (Interceptors) around where I work. No supper performance engine, just added cooling and some small computer tweak (I stand corrected) to give a small boost.

yeah I guess that just saying "tuned" is kind of vague huh. I was reffering to the computer tweaking.

man thats great, what freeway did u do it on? Just curious. I did 160 once between little rock and memphis, really nice piece of freeway excellent surface, hardly any traffic, highly recommended.
also what RPM's were u at, anything left over? Whats your turbo set up?
In regards to stock turbos and the previous statement of the record being 171 on stock turbos I highly doubt that as those stockers do not have the power to break thru the airwall. Maybe downhill, wind from behind and a hot chick with a cold beer in front of a bar...... maybe!!:grinno:

Not really the best idea to post where you are speeding over 100mph more than teh posted limit. I've seen at least 2 people get busted by doing that.

yeah, one of my buddies owns a body shop... the crown vics sometimes have special packages on the engines and suspension...it's usually based on the rank and training of the officer... I've seen a few vics with 5.0 engines in them and one supercharged 4.6l... they will get up and go, as for the SUVS, they're not very fast... gotten away from a few of them myself, they can't hang corners worth a crap, and they have low top speed. I was leaving him by 80...

i remember asking a cop friend of mine once about the performance of cop cars and all he said was "doesnt matter, they cant outrun the radio". i guess thats mostly true but at 182 i think it'd be a damn good race between you and the radio signal lol

The only difference is, the cops don't play fair... after you hit spike strips... the radio will be much faster...
You don't really have to outrun the radio... just get out of the cops' sight and ditch the current direction of travel... i.e. interstate: get off at next exit... and lay low
