should chevy bring back the big block?

simple question. the chevy big block was a mammoth the ford big block mammoth. both filled out wide fenders pretty well. i know the 454 was made into the 90s in the ss trucks. but they stopped. so my question to you is should chevy dust off the block and make it like a larger brother to the ls1 (or ls whatever number we are up to now ls2) i think if done correctly that would be cool to make the monte carlo, impala, and the camaro all rear drive monters. seeing as those first 2 are front drive now.

Well, they do make the 8.1 liter big block, but I think it is safe to say we will never see it under the hood an anything but a 3/4 ton truck.

They still do make a big block again only in the 3/4 and one ton trucks it is the same exact block as the tire shreading one in the sixties just bored and stroked to 500c.i along with fuel injection of course. As with puting one in a camaro, impala, and monte carlo probably wouldnt be the best idea with gas these days not many people would buy it, especially when you can get globs of power from the ls2 and ls7 which is 427ci. But I do think that it is the worst thing ever that the impala and monte's are front wheel drive, also all the cadilacs are fwd, GM should go back to its roots and stop trying to copy the japanese:banghead:

The new Corvette Z06 has a hand-built 7.0 liter LS7. It is much more compact than the big-blocks from the 1960s and 1970s though. It weighs 71 pounds less than BMW's new 500 hp V-10. The new Z06 is the only car sold in North America that has more than 400 hp that doesn't have a gas guzzler tax. The new Z06 also gets around 26 mpg on the highway. The new Corvette C6 has 400 and also doesn't have a gas guzzler tax.

The 2009/2010 Imapla may get rwd.

The Cadillac CTS, STS, and XLR have rwd with awd optional on the STS. The Cadillac CTS-V, STS-V, and the XLR-V also have rwd with the STS-V and XLR-V coming standard with hand-built 4.4 liter supercharged V-8s.

The new Pontiac Solstice and Solstice GXP have rwd.

GM still makes 454 crate engines and i would hazard to guess they probably make some kind of 396 as well. There is no reason to really mass produce them though, as stock 454's even fuel injected arent as powerful as even the 6 liter in my dads 2002 chevy. I think the last ones, like the one in my grandpa's 94 chevy only make about 250 or so, though the torque is good. they were good engines, but i would only use them in a nostalgic setting. dont get me wrong, the older chevy small and big block engines are my favorite, but the modern ones are better for todays applications...

You gotta think like the manufacturer. Nice, quiet, fuel efficient cars sell better than tire smokin big blocks. GM, like everyone else is more worried about sales than satisfying people like us.

Around 7,000 Corvette Z06s will be built this year.

That is a small fraction compared to even the total amount of Chevys produced in a single month.

The LS7 is hand-built. The new Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V have hand-built, 4.4 liter supercharged Northstar V-8s.

it a shame though that the average high school student cant afford that though. i mean imagine how cool it would be if a junior in high school with a job could get one of those rwd cars listed > they would have to be rich. however back in the day that same kid could own a 69 chevelle, or dodge whatever with a 440 bb.

I wasnt talking about bringing back the big block if you read my whole post you would of realized that im against it, and there have been comparisons done by car and driver on front vs. rear wheel drive and there stats are almost identical in mpg so their is really no advantage to fwd and i dont know where you get that fwd is quiter than rwd:screwy: , and as for cadillac their flagship car the dts is still fwd although it does have awd option still dissapointing.

Cadillac's flagship car (I assume u mean sedan) would be the STS-V with the XLR-V as their ultimate flagship. The DTS doesn't have an awd option.

chevy is bringing back rear wheel drive in 2009 cause it cost to much to fix front drive systems
