I have a 2000 Montana that trips code P1404, and this comes up as a code for the EGR #2.
It only happens about once every other month and I can clear it without any
trouble, but it keeps coming back.
Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be, and what the number 2 EGR is, or where it is located?
Thanks in advance

P1404 is the EGR stuck open. The PCM commands the EGR to go closed and the read value does not match what it should be.
My guess either the EGR position sensor is starting to fail, the pintle is actually stuck, or you have a loose connection.

Thanks for the help.
Can you tell me is this the EGR up on the top of the engine?
That one is easy enough to get to, but the scanner reads EGR #2, and I did not know that there was more than one.

1Bradymichael, There is only 1 EGR and it's located on top of engine just to the left of the Trans dip stick. Check ground and terminal connections for contamination/corrosion/continuity. Maybe the #2 refers to the terminal # at the EGR-there are 5.

Much appreciated.
I was thinking there was only one but I don't work on them daily:wink:
I will see what I can find
