Sudden Valve Cover Leakage

Any ideas on the source of a sudden (as in almost overnight) cause of Valve Cover Gasket leaking?

My 96 GL (140k) went from no oil leakage, to the smell of buring oil on the engine block after it gets up to temp. It appears to be running down from the Valve Cover Gasket which I thought was an item that would gradually deteriorate. Its gone thru about 1/2 quart of oil in a week (300 miles driving).

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

i cant think of anything that will rip a valve cover gasket while its still in place, and especially if your loosing that much oil. The conclusion i came to is that the glue took a poop. oh well, its a cheap one hour job so you'll be ok.

is your oil cap on all the way? someone just change the oil and pour oil all over the place. valve covers leak all the time on 2.0
