Hey guys,

Im working on my lil sister's car (dad's old car) because money is always tight for college students, but the 99 rodeo 4 cylinder 5 speed is starting to get hot almost immediately. When I take a turn then engine will cool off to a certain extent, but it still runs pretty hot, almost to the H. I am wodering where the heck the thermostat on this thing is. I want to check that before I do a water pump job which is a pain. Any help is greatly appreciated,

thanks!

it sounds like you may need to add coolant...

sounds as though when you turn, the extra coolant in the reserve tank is trickling down the pipe and cooling it off somewhat.

if the coolant is full, then you could have a radiator blockage not allowing coolant to move.

it doesn't sound like a thermostat problem, from the turning standpoint.....

well i just drove it and turning it didnt seem to help. i think what happened is that the thermostat opened up a little bit and the closed back down. but is the thermostat on the block on the right side of the engine? (standing from the hood) and is there anywhere i can get an engine layout of this car?

thanks,

aaron

It's hidden up top somewhere.

It was on the top left side of the engine, connected to the upper radiator hose. That was the problem as I suspected. Easy repair, just need to get a new gasket...HATE paper gaskets!
