What kind of insuracne do you need?

How much does this usually cost?

speediva

a) Depends on A/S/L... no, really.

b) Depends on A/S/L... I'm being serious.

Not to mention that the kind of bike plays a HUGE factor in cost.

18/M/PA. I tried getting qoutes, but they were all if you already had the bike and liscense. If I just bought a cheapy begginer bike, whats an estimate of how much? I might just ask B2Kmax what he pays if I get a chance to PM him. What do you pay?

I would buy a 250 or 500cc bike... and buy it outright so you only need liability. Otherwise, at your age and being a male, you are going to have to fork out some serious cash. I'm in PA, but I'm 23, Female, and I took the MSF Safety Course (discount), and on my bike I pay less than $200 a year.

Yea, I was planning on payin for the bike cash and jsut getting w/e insurance I needed to have to be legal. 200 a year is really good. i guess id expect about 600 a year?

like tangie said, liability is the only insurance that you must have and it's the most expensive. i have full coverage on my bike because i'm financing it, so i pay $1300 a year, the breakdown of my policy shows that about half of that is for liability so it's about $650 for me and i'm 22 years old, male, live in NY and i also took MSF.

oh and it's BP2K2Max. BP's fine, that's what all my friends call me.

B2K= some old school boyband.

Liability is the cheapest and most basic form of insurance available. I have liability on my R6 and I pay $15/mo. I don't ride on the street much or I would have full coverage.

Collison for me is most expensive, regardless of deduction, $800 at least.

yeah, you're right it's collision that's $650.

If I buy a cheap bike though, I dont need collision, just liability.

I pay $61/month ($732/year) for full coverage on my cbr954rr through Country Insurance. They have decent rates, but in order to insure a m/c you have to put your car on the policy. http://www.countryfinancial.com
Hope this helps!

You can get a free quote from geico or progressive online. You just fill it out as if you own the bike (own and make payments or own and do not make payments or lease are the options on progressive) Just choose what it would be if you owned the bike. They'll give you a rate quote and email it to you as well. There's no comittment to buy. I've been shopping for a new bike and have gotten at least two dozen rate quotes from each geico and progressive just to check general rates in the past month or two

WOW. its expensive to live in the United States of the Bush.

down here (all in Aussie dollars but i'll give comparisons) i pay $800 a year for full coverage including leathers/helmet for my 03 954 and its insured for an agreed value of $15000 which is what i paid for it brand new.

we normally pay 25-50% more than you guys on goods. exchange rate is 75Au-100US. brand new litre bikes on the road are $18k-$20k and the average wage per week is around $500 in the hand (i'm on $1000)

so i bought my bike for 15 weeks pay and i pay less than 1 week worth to insure it

I've been shopping around for insurance for a starter/commuter bike (ninja 250ex) and i've gotten quotes of like 2,000 a year! ridiculous.

I'm 21, male and live in St. Louis.

Holy Crap!

I pay about $8 a month for minimum liability on an older bike, and $23 a month for full coverage on a newer Harley with a $5000 accessory rider.

I'm glad there are so many sport bikes out there...apparently that's who they are sticking it to...

Dude, I'm 38, male and live in the STL area.

Your problem is you said the magic word (Ninja) which gives insurance companies a hard-on. And 21 years old? Even better! What's your driving record like?

I have no accidents ever and no tickets within 10 years. I insure my bikes, car and house through the same company and get a killer discount.

Call a company and get a quote for liability on something like an '84 Yamaha Maxim 650 and see the difference...

Stay away from sport-type models if you really want cheap insurance. Go for a Honda Nighthawk or some other UJM like that...

It may be just where i live (mich) but every bike i've owned has been expensive to insure. I had a honda magna for my first bike, i still owen money on it so i have to have full coverage. I am 20, no tickets/accidents ever and still payed about 1900 a year for coverage. I looked into getting a mid 90's rocket, and found if i had to insure a 1997 cbr900rr i would pay about 230 more a year:shakehead

Where i am from insurance is stickin it to everybody

It's probably a LOT due to your age, in addition to where in MI you reside... Being 20 sucks on the insurance... Being a few months shy of 24 isn't much better, but having 8 years of no claims (knock on wood) helps a little.

How goes it motorists? I have a question or two about motorcycle insurance.

I'm 18, Male, a Minnesota state resident. I have a D class motor license. I intend to bike a 250cc honda rebel. Can anyone give me a ballpark price of what I'll be looking at when the insurance bill comes? Or, is there anymore information I should gather before asking this question? I'd love any constructive help!

im sure if you go to an insurance place. tell them the cc of the bike and year, they can give you a quote. i did that before i bought my bike. i was torn between two bikes, one bike was 1200cc the other was a 600cc so i wanted to see the difference in ins. cost.

Im 22/m/ohio riding a 01 Yamaha R6. I went the smart route, put the insurance, full coverage, under my father as the main driver who is 44 years old. Coverage still covers me riding the bike and I pay somewhere around $28/month.

is it really the smart way?

down here if you do that you still have to pay shitloads when you do finally insure in your name because you have no insurance history. if you stack it also goes on their record upping the premiums on that and possibly other policies.

when i started driving, it was all in my name and after 3 yrs i had a maximum no claim bonus (60%). a mate who went under his mums's name ended up with zero. at that time we both had the same car and i was paying $1200AU while he was paying $3000AU

when your learning, chances are you are learning on a cheaper car/bike. 3years down the track it'll be more expensiveto insure a more expensive bike.

so short term its cheaper but long term may not be and in the event of an accident can be much worse

Agreed, it may not be best long-term I guess...my thought process was to leave it in his name til after 25 then I would get a better rate due to my age. I could be wrong.

in pa progressive seems to be the cheapest for me and all my riding buddies.
it WAS going to be 800 and change / year for a 03 gsxr 600 however i went up to a 750 and it jumped to 1200 / year. for quotes...i just used VIN #s i found on the net for an example and plugged in 'own and make payments' well...cause thats how it would be if i had it, yadda yadda, got a quote. a 250cc wont be bad, even if it is a ninja

Progressive is good or you may get a discount going with your car insurance agent.

Hi everyone...

I decided to merge these threads together because they asked a lot of the same questions.

As for Progressive... I think some people might be surprised. I thought my Progressive costs were good until I got to State Farm. I thought my State Farm costs were good until I got to Liberty Mutual.

It comes down to CALLING or looking at specific quotes for YOU on a certain bike. There really isn't much else you can do.
