wheel bearings

New to the forum, I have 98 chevy blazer, which is making a whinning sound comming from the left front. Only when I am moving, no sound when stopped, with some vibration when moving. When I turn steering wheel to left, it quits. I am thinking wheel bearing, but would appreciate other thoughts on this. If it is wheel bearing, what is involved in replacing it.

There is a possiblity its the bearing, but in most cases its your brake pads. When was the last time you had a brake job done?

I put new pads on about a month ago, you could be right on that. Maybe I should check to make sure everything is at it should be.

i've have the same problem, except its the right front and when i turn right it stops making the noise. I have already replace the front left hub(includes bearing) so i assume that my front right is bad too.

More then likely its the bearing. The job is not all the difficult, however the bearing is a sealed unit and comes with the a abs sensor built in. Just remember when you turn left the weight transfers to the right taking the load off of the left bearing which is why it gets quiet. When installing the new one be sure to follow the torque specs when putting the hub nut back on. If its not torqed correctly you'll burn the bearing up in a few weeks. Good luck

Jack the front end up and spin the wheel - you will feel a bad hub grating.
If a 4wd jack up under the lower control arm so the CV joint will still turn - could be that too. 3 bolts hold the 1 piece hub on and if 4wd you need the 36mm cv shaft hub nut socket too.
