E36 - PROBLEM, please help!

I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me whats wrong with my 92, E36 316i.
Each morning, especially when cold, the car makes a high pitch squeeking noise and revs itself for a minute or so upon starting the engine.
I believe it may be the timing belt, but am unsure, and was wondering if anyone else had similar problems
