Want Ideas on hardcore weight loss for GTO/3kgt

I want sum of your ideas on how to cut sum weight of dat GTO/300gt:grinyes:

Just like any other car, strip the interior, ac, exhaust, +other useless stuff(AWS etc.).

is the AWS hard to ditch?

this thread has been coverd way way to much can we add part of this to the FAQ. For the most part the my understanding the only really heavy exterior part that is worth chaning is the hood. As for the rest its waht morphius said and in most peoples view its part of what you bought the car for. And the other common view is the car does well in skid pads etc... why do you want to strip it?

for "hardcore" weight reduction

1. Buy cage, a saw, a welder, and lots of CF parts.
2. Strip off all parts that you now have in CF
3. Weld in cage
4. Cut out all the "extra" stuff
5. Install new CF parts
and if you really want to get crazy
6. Redesign front and rear subframes so they are lighter

CF hood
Remove spare tire,
Light racing wheels,
CF Fenders (usually don't save much, fenders only weigh about 10-15lbs anyway)
Remove AC,
Aluminum Radiator (usually doesn't save much, but added performance)
The AWS from what I heard, isn't worth the hastle of removing it, it apparently doesn't weigh much, and requires alot of work (not sure, just what I heard)





OH...................Not sure how much you way, but slimfast could save you up to 50lbs when you are in the vehicle..............................so instead of 180-210lbs, cut down to 140lbs, and you've just shaved some pounds, and leave your girl at home unless she is less than 90lbs.

i was looking at removing the AC but i still want the flashy computer display and definately still want the window demister is there some way to fool the Air conditioning computer that its still functioning alright after ive removed the compressor and the radiator looking thingy?

While im on a roll i was thinking if its possible to Swap out GTOVR4 rear suspension + Diff for a GTO VR4 MR rear suspension and diff, my reasoning is weightsaving from the AWS removal as well as drivetrain loss caused by the AWS Hydraulic pump thats built onto the rear differential.

Hmm i think it would be possible because the mr is just a slightly reworked vr4but i'd wait for one of the mods to sign off or check 3si.org to see if sombody has done it or thought bout it.

I can bet you it would be a lot easyer to find the rear subframe off a 95-96 stealth TT than it will be to get one off an MR. They are the same thing.

the fan should still blow air and heat, and i dont think the computer will know if you remove the compressor and condensor(radiator looking thing). It obviously wont blow cold, but it should still work at a defogger.

Im not positive on this stuff though, this is speaking from experiance on other cars. i have never messed with my 3kgt AC system.

The computer will know that the compressor is missing and will display a red dot where the blue star thing normally is. Your windshield defroster will still work, but not as well.

Instead of roasting your ass in the summer by shedding a few pounds (your a/c) , which I gurantee you wont even notice . Why dont you spend time saved by working more, buying performance mods which will do a lot more for you than losing a a/c system. Even an intake alone would give you better performance than taking off you entire a/c. I can see if you want to lose the spare and mabye take out the back seats but just remember your only going to be a little bit quicker after all this hard work is done.

there was nice right up done one time on af bout weight reduction that usaly the most to be gained from a full stripped interior was .2-.3 seconds notice its point 2 point 3 imo nice to keep the leather and all. And like started above mods are the best solution.

oh ya this is about the AC questions
i live in new zealand and during summer it can hit 36 degrees celcius at its hottest i can then open the window at 100kph and its nice and cool. :P

Because when you convert 36*celcius to *F its 96.8.

And now that I know you are from New Zealand, your right about the MR suspension, it will be easyer to get ahold of that than a stealth suspension.

Seriously? I love driving with my windows down. It just makes driving more fun when you can feel the wind on your face:p

ive got a '86 lebaron convertible and driving with the top down at 80mph is less wind noise than anything over 40 with the windows down in the gt...of course the lebaron is about at aerodynamic as a brick, so i think maybe because the gt is extremely aerodynamic, the air flows around it better with the windows up, so when theyre down, theres more air readily available to flow in.

96 degs, yeah, I'd keep the A/C, I stayed through a british spring, and it was cold as hell, I was always in sweaters, and these guys had t-shirts, so I figured, NZ was close, I flunked Geography by the way.......................

try riding in a z with the t-tops open and both windows down, going 90 on the highway... I needed some earplugs for that bitch :D
