I'm looking to replace the air box on my '98 lumina 3.1L with a cone filter. Can this be done and if so, what is a good brand of filter to use?

Not to mention, loud sucking noise in engine bay when accelerating hard. I tried it, went back to original and a good filter, then then again i dont like loud exaust either, ummmm.... unless its a V8

now here's a topic that can lead into discussion...haha...so many people think that the cone filters are extremely necessary, I sell a dozen filters a week on average. The idea behind cone filters is superb, however, there are only certain applications that these filters work properly. In order for a cone filter to work proplerly you still need cold air comming from outside the engine area. On the 3.1L's there is not sufficient room for your cone to get any air except for hot exhaust heat, which actually harms engine performance. I always TRY to talk customers into buying K@N panel filters, because your car allready contains a cold air intake. The cone filters are ideal for trucks, or vehicles with open engine areas to allow cold air into the filter. You know my advice, PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS! I'd appreciate it!

l totaly agree with you, it allready is designed to suck cold air from behind the drive headlight, what l did on my engine was removed the air restricter, sure its a tad louder but hey it actuly gave me a better up off the line BUT sucks shit in the higher RPM from around 5500-9200 when it could use the turbo or SC And l gota turbo so its different

you remove your airbox
see the nose at the bottem facing the front of the car.
that rivited on just take a flat head screw drive and prie at it then it should pop or break off
l'v found it restricts the air and adds a bit of potential to this engine
caue if any owner knows these motors will pump out 205hp with very little modification if you fallowed up on the history of this motor the 2nd generation 60degree V6 redesigned for 1993
