No, I don't think it will work. If you plan to wheel this truck as hard as many of the people on this board do (myself included), you will break many parts (especially steering components), and have one hell of a time making it up steep inclines at altitude.
If your idea of an "Xtreme X", however, is dolling it up and driving it to the mall, you'll be fine. Just don't disconnect those swaybars...
p.s. You do realize raising the torsion bars 2" will do NOTHING to reduce the amount your tires rub in the front when the suspension is compressed, right?

Yes I know that...but I'm not doing any extreme offroading yet...and why won't it work?

I would have to agree with Gothamist on this one. I pretty much have the same set up with a 3" Trailmaster Body Lift, SLR 2" Shackles, and my T bars (stock) are almost cranked through the roof (I know that is not a good idea!!). There is NO way I would subject my X to some of the things the guys on this board would do. Yet! It is just not ready. I had the guy at the tire shop test fit some 33x12.50" rubber on my truck, and that is where they stayed, in the shop. They look cool but they aren't very functional!! They just won't fit well with the mods you are describing.

Hey packman are you sure you have a 3" Trailmaster body lift or is it the Performance Accessories one? If it is a Trailmaster one do you have the part number, where you bought it and the price...also how complete was the kit..I don't need the bumper brackets at all.

Yeah it was a trailmaster, I used one from a Mazda truck. $89.00 It took some fabrication (I Like Puzzles!)but it worked just fine. It came with grade 8 hardware and bumper brackets. I have no complaints as of yet.

What kind of fabrication? Were the bolts the right pitch 1.25? What came in the kit...part to lengthen the steering? Also do you remember the part number or year of the truck...I certainly don't want to spend more than twice this considering I don't need all that comes in the kit. Oh yea plastic or aluminum pucks? THANKS!

Interesting...I'd been wondering what was so special about the PA lift to make it cost $250+ .
Do you think you could give a little more detail about the install (puzzle).
Maybe this needs a new thread.

We seem to be thinking alike Todd.

Sorry guys. Okay, here it is!
The pucks are Nylon
The rear bolt holes have to be re-threaded
For the two middle mounts you have to cut the rubber bushings and drill a hole through the floor because they are a little too hard to tap. Therefore you are going to need two more nuts than the kit has (I forget the size). The steering shaft has a universal so no extension is needed. Remove console disconect the shifter and notch the body so you can shift into low-range.
Oh yeah, if you have an ARB, make shure it clears the front fender brackets. I don't have stock exkaust hangers, but i suppose those will need some adjustment as well. Watch out for the lower radiator hose near the idler pulley!! I'll try and find the part number tonite. I just re-drilled the stock bumper to align it with the body. I'll do my ARB next week probably (PROCRASTINATOR!).

Thanks, that's what I was wondering.
I wonder if it would be possible to use a kit designed for and older pathy. The bolt sizes should be the same sizes. I think the price for those should be about the same as the one for Mazda's.
And for me and my Frontier, I might be able to use one for a Hardbody Truck.
Todd what else comes with the PA kit that would cause the price to triple? I know the brackets for the bumpers probably would not work, but the rear should be easy and the front shouldn't be that hard either to raise.
I'm just thinking out loud again.

It is very possible to use the Pathfinder/Hardbody kit...not sure if they have the same amount of pucks though or if they use the same bolt configuration since some thread into the body and some are nutted. The PA kit is designed to raise both bumpers while most less expensive kits do not so they don't have to worry about getting sued since the bumpers still do the job that they were designed and tested for...they might also include some other small parts but i am not sure as this would vary kit to kit. What pisses me off is the 4 Runner kits are like $125 from PA and they rape us for twice that!

Well said...It also bothers me that our only option is 3" I don't really want to go that far. 2" body lift would be the max for me. I definetely don't want to spend $250 for a kit and then to modify if to what I would like.
Like I said though, the rear bumper on the frontier would be easy to raise. I don't tow with it anyway. It's pretty much just there for looks. I use my receiver for towing. It's the front bumper that would be a little harder to line up correctly, but I think it could be done.

not gonna have a problem with that...i'm not exposing my x to the harsh terrains you all do...and I've already been told it's fine the way it is...so we shall see...:sun:

Aquabro,
You have plenty of clearance running 33-12.50s? You obviously are not articulating the suspension. Guaranteed they will rub when articulated off-road, especially on AR wheels. Both the 10" and 8" width wheels use a standard offset that doen't cooperate well with the Xterra suspension. I would recommend you evaluate some serious suspension and steering modifications if you plan on going off-road. Otherwise your friends won't be pleased with you when you start breaking stuff. Bring spare tie rods.

I'm with Goth, Ian, Synchro, and War here ... you are going to have problems, on-road or off. Obviously more problems off-road, but after you hit a few deep pot holes your tie rods are going to bend.

I hadn't even thought of that. If you were to drive on Washington DC or Pensylvania roads.... i can only imagine what it would be like to break a tie-rod at speed!!!! :uhoh: holy crap.

Sorry to let you know but you don't have anyway near the amount of clearance you need to run 33x12.5's offroad, you need a 3" bodly lift AND a 3" suspension kit to run those tires. Your rim choice is also going to cause you to wear out steering parts up front a lot quicker than normal...take it off road and make sure you bring tie rod adjusters and a new centerlink because they ARE going to break. I don't mean to scare you but you should have asked more questions first, a lot of us could have helped you make the right choices...rim offset/size is very critical on Nissan's.

Everyone knows this is "Aquabro" and not "Aquamander" right?
no relation.
No offense Aquabro, but I think you're going through alot of expense and trouble making mods like this to your X if you never intend to offroad. Of course, if you were going to do any serious offroading I think you would have done more research.
Most of the people on this board DO offroad. They have learned by trial and error. I don't think anyone is trying to flame you here. In a properly modified X, you should be able to take it anywhere you're driving ability will let you (that's the key anyway)
In the long run, it's you're truck. Modify it and enjoy the ride. Just be prepared, you will damage things. (even on milder terrain)
