Hello, Our son has a 94 Cutlass Ciera S 2.2 4Cyl. Two weeks ago the car died while he was driving it. We had it towed home. It will idle but not run. So far my husband has changed the fuel filter, Throttle position sensor, map sensor, Ignition module and coil packs, new pvc valvle and cleaned throttle body. Fuel pressure, vacuum lines & plugs appear to be ok. He is at a loss and could use any advise. We have looked through the threads and found possibilities, but so far nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have strong spark at the plugs, if you spray carb cleaner into the intake will it start, these are basic preliminary diagnostics steps, I hope all those parts weren't put in for this problem? Fuel pressure can't "appear" to be ok, it must be checked with a gage especially if you have spark and it starts on carb cleaner.

Hi There and thank you for your response. I am writing this for my husband who has spent about two weeks on this after work. They did check the fuel with a guage and it is good. Appears was my phrasing sorry about that. And the plugs are all firing. The car will start and idle rough but if you try to give it gas it will die or get really rough. And when put into gear it dies all together. We live up in the mountains so to tow it to a garage would be a 40 mile trip but if we have to we will. My husband is not a computer person, I found this sight and just wanted to help. Thank you again for the response.

Aside from a crank sensor problem, a sticking EGR valve can cause rough and erratic engine operation. Check for a broken vacuum line, and look at the valve while you raise an lower the engine speed, the valve plunger should not move. My Olds egr valve had a small filter attached, I would remove it and clean out the metal line with a paper clip.

Thank you Mr. Biz, I made him eat dinner first and now he is out taking the EGR off. Will let you know the outcome.
