My neighbor has a GM Delco radio with built-in six disc DC player he removed from his 2004 H-2. I want to put it in my 2001 Silverado. Does anyone know if it the wiring harness in the tow vehicles are the same?

I just did a quick search on Wiring harnesses for a 04 H2 and the 01 Silv. and neither of the two fit both. At least not the two I found on Crutchfield. I'm sure someone must make an adapter for this type of application, you can't be the first person to want to do this. Otherwise there's always the solder gun route. But would be alot more work if you wanted to install a different radio later on.

the harness is completly different, they wont work unless you wire in a factory harness from a newer truck and then you will also have to cut your dash to make it fit then make some type of bracket to hold the radio too. in my opinion its to much work.

This swap will not work at all (well not easly). The 2002 and older have what I call the standard 12 volt positive signal B+ to turn on the radio and operate it. The 2003 and newer systems use what is call the class 2 serial data bus system to operate the radio. There is no 12 volt power at the radio at all and also the newer radio does not have a amp in it to power the speakers, it uses a seperate amp. I was looking to do the same swap a year ago on my 2002 silverado and found out that I would have to get a complete wiring harness from a 03 or newer truck along with all the computers and modules and all the other gadgets along with it. I was looking at $1500+ for the parts alone. I scrapped the idea and installed an aftermarket pioneer head unit instead much cheaper.

At least it was not a direct swap when I was trying to do it, Somebody may have come out with something to make this work easier, but I have not seen anything.
