Service engine soon PO443 & PO449 codes

I have 2002 Alero GL v6, with 85,000miles on it. About six month ago my "Service engine soon" yellow warning light came on. I took it to Auto-zone where I had them read the error codes. PO443 popped up at the time and possibly PO449 (can't recall -- been a while). I was told to make sure my gas cap is fitted properly and the light should go away. I figured it was not a big deal and ignored the problem.
About a week ago, I was having my breaks done & a bearing replaced at Tuffy's. They re-scanned & cleared my error codes. While they didn't tell me what the codes were, they did say that if the warning light comes back then I need either the oxygen sensor or/and a coolant temperature sensor replaced. Needless to say the light popped right back on as not a 5 minutes later as I drove 100ft, filled up my tank and started driving away. I took the car to auto-zone again and the error codes were once again:
PO443 Evaporotive Emission Control System Purge Valve; canister or solenoid fault. (approx)
and
PO449 Evaporotive Emission Control System vent valve/solenoid malfunction.

So if anyone has any ideas on the codes and how that could be related to the sensors that Tuffy mentioned or anything else related let me know. Before I spend $250 to replace them :uhoh:

P0443 is "Evaporative Emissions Control System Purge Valve Circuit Fault"

P0449 is "Evaporative Emissions Control System Vent Solenoid Malfunction"

Best thing to do is check all vacuum lines from the gas tank to the evaporative charcoal cannister by the gas tank and to the purge valve located at the engine. Check the electrical connector at the vent solenoid which should be located on the charcoal cannister and purge valve solenoid by the intake manifold.

None of the codes are 02 sensor or ECT related.

The p0440 is the gas tank e-vap moduel. its in frount of the tank. I had mine replased the other day. I dont think this has helped, but if you encounter it, it will, i thought i add this info in since i saw this.

evaporative charcoal cannister- Is that the sencer in frount of the tank that has the wires going to it? Or is that concidered the e-vap.. thing. I cant remember.

Whats up Andrew.

The evaporative vent solenoid is the one in the back by the tank. Purge solenoid is the one at the engine by the intake manifold.

Not a whole lot Bob! Just working hard at work. Then it was the vent solenoid that was replased. Anything new over there?

Same here got to make a buck. Can't believe the mild winter. Groundhog says 6 more weeks of winter....yeah right.

Alero is hanging in there but doesn't get driven much. My son in the Air Force is leaving for Korea for a year then Japan for two years. Trying to figure out what to do with his Alero. I only drive it once every two weeks. Surprising that the NADA average retail is $9500 on it. It only has 38K miles. He just used it to go back n forth to school which was only 3 miles one way. But I doubt that we will get that much for it but you never know. It still looks new.

Thats about it.

Did you ever find out what the exact issue was? I have a 2000 Malibu with the same codes. Wondering if this is a "fix it myself" kind of issue or "bring it to the pros". Either way, I would like to better understand the effort involved.
