Plug Wires

okokok...

I f'd up and pulled 2 boots off the wires. While looking at them I noticed they were cracking in a couple places. They're 8mm Mallories. Obviously I need to replace them, but I can't decide which to replace them with.

MSD has the 8.5mm superconductors, Moroso has the 8.65mm Blue Max's, and there's a couple others, but I don't want my radio all screwed up with interference like it is now.

What's the difference between solid core and the heli-core and the OHMs and all that crap? Summit & Jegs doesn't give enough info for me to figure it out.

Replace with the same thing? Anybody got any recommendations???

If it matters: '74 454-Mark IV, MSD 6AL, Accel HEI Supercoil, AC Delco Plugs, running 11:1 compression.

Either of the ones you posted would probably suit you dine, I'd venture to guess that the MSDs are more expensive since they overchaare because it says "MSD" on the box

go with your mallorys or the msd.

i use the accell extreme 9000's on my 87 and have no problems. msd's are about the same price; u might want to use those because u have msd ignition and those wires come with the ignition package

MSD gives a good discription of the discrepancies between the wires http://www.msdignition.com/wire_1.htm thats about the 8.5 supers ... they have info on all types of wires if you look

If i remember right the last time i researched wires the MSD 8.5 super conductors came out the best spec wise... they had the least OHM resistance and yet provided the most power...

I getting the MSD 8.5's for my car because the accel 8.8 300+ things that are on the car are cracking and I think they are giving me a miss. They cost about 95 then shipping so it will have to wait until I sell my arm and my leg on ebay.

When I actually do yank it out (the engine that is) and work on it (with wrenches) I'll take some pictures (of the engine rebuild) and post them up. somehow. I have no idea how to do it, but I've got like 4 months to figure it out. Probably never happen.

That radio interference was the tell tale sign you had cracked wires :thumbsup:

No shit??? It's real nice when us old guys can teach each other something.

That's how i know i've put off a tune too long, turn the radio to AM, no station, just the fuzz and listen for the engine rpm in the static. Now there will always be some (fuel injection especially) but a significant volume of it and you know your arcing out somewhere.

Nother nice one, same thing on AM, if you have power windows roll it up or down, if it's really noticable, time to clean some grounds :D
