Trunk Lid Waterfall

I just recently purchased a used 2001 Taurus SES.
Rain water and melted snow from the top of the trunk lid floods the inside the trunk whenever I open it instead of pouring into the "gutter channels" like it should .
It is very annoying to say the least. :angryfire
I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if there is there a way to correct this problem.
I notice there are what looks like adjustment bars on the hinges. I don't know what they are for.
I don't want to make a small problem bigger by messing around with them.
Thanks for any input.

Dry everything off as good as you can. Sprinkle baby powder all around the seal. Close trunk, run water around the seams. After you dry the outside of trunk, open the trunk and look for a place where there is no baby powder. this is where your leak is.
