airbox (modifying it)

my friend has a similar cavalier to mine, except its a 97 instead of 98, but the setup is the same. he noticed that his airbox (and mine as well), doesnt have an opening in it to retrieve air from the outside, or anywhere for that matter. Would it be a good idea to drill a hole or make a large opening on the bottom or side of the airbox to allow the airbox to retreive air from somewhere? I wouldnt see how that would cause a problem, since the air filter would just filtrate any dust or anything that may get sucked into the airbox.

i dont know about the 97 but if your 98 is a 2200, it DOES have a hole, its just really really far down there, and its pretty small, but it IS there

I think it would have to have a hole, without one how would the air get in there? I wouldnt worry too much about fucking around with the stock airbox, if having one bothers you so bad, you should just get a WAI or CAI.

Actually. what one of my friends did with his car is this. He chopped his headlight up, then took a hose from the headlight spot, to make it look like a headlight was there, but the opening, he snorkled to his airbox. It was actually a gainer for some power, but also, it wasn't a Cavy. Just my two cents if you want to modify it.

yeah my friend and i took a closer look and the hole was pretty small, like pinhole small! but yeah, he has decided hes gunna get a cold air intake, while im just gunna sell my cavy and get an integra type R or a honda civic. I like my cavy, but then again, you gotta love those VTECs and the flexibility of mods for them!

Yeah. VTEC is fun but an ITR will run you some serious dollars. I would recomend a del Sol VTEC model or a del Sol and swap a GSR motor into it. I myself am going LS Block B16 head. I also went from Cavy to Honda. I like the Cavy still, but there is just something about Hondas I like more. I am, a walking oxymoron.

Mmmmmmm... LS V-tec, nice. Type R's are way overrated and WAY over priced. I would also go Del Sol with Vtec, cant go wrong with that!

I drove my friends 97 VTEC Del Sol a few times before he blew it up (many long road trips from TN to NC) It would bark the tires with ease in 1st or 2nd! One day I was following him in my Cavy and he took this backroad he had only been on a few times. Well, you turn right onto the road, it goes down a very short and somewhat steep hill, then a moderatly sharp right turn. I'm on his ass until we turn onto the road, I see him go down, and around the corner, as I came around the corner there he sits stopped, facing ME in my lane, so I had just enough time to get clear into the other lane and around him. His girl proceeded to whack and smack him for a few minutes, we all laughed and went on. Hey, I forgot he said he'd give me that Honda for free, just needs a new windshield, passenger window and uh,... oh yeah, another motor!

on a lighter subject, i had my box holed up or better known as "Swiss Cheesed" did the same on my wife's laser. You are not going to get a ton or hp for a CAI. Just swiss cheese it and put a k&n and there you go

Holy if you were anywhere near me, I would definately pick that car up. How'd he blow it?
