Hello everyone, im new here to this Forum.

I hope you mechanics can help?
I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina 3.1 Litre and need to replace the starter.

I bought a NEW Delco $170 Starter, I have that.

Is the starter hard to install?

Is it near the Oil filter, I think it is?

Can you experienced mechanics give some tips or warnings about taking off and putting this new Delco starter on please?

Thank you.

I recently changed the starter on my '95, 3.1 APV. 1st thing you should do is get the Haynes and the Chiltons manuals for your car series. I use both because for some repairs one is better than the other or it just helps to have two different views. The starter was easy enough to replace in an awkward sort of way. Get the car as high as possible and on jack stands. I also remove the tires but that is solely for my comfort. there are two or three different protective guards that must be removed to get the starter out and back in. There is also a bracket from the starter to the A/C compressor. Mark all your wires as you disconnect them. When installing the new starter be sure the gear in the starter lines up well with the gear in the tranny. There is a long bolt that is very awkward to line up with its threads in the engine block. Be sure not to cross thread or run the bolt into the tranny. There is a frame support in the way of this bolt. Due to this support I used a crows foot to get this bolt loose and re-torqued. Be sure to use a torque wrench when you tighten all the mounting bolts. The manuals will have the specs.

These aren't complete instructions, just some of my observations. You just have to get underneath and do it. Take your time and you should be fine.

There are free online repair guides available on Autozone.com with visuals. you probably could have gotten the starter a lot cheaper there too. The starter is right above the oil filter and is super easy to change. don't forget to disconnect the battery though!
