Question; 98 Headlight assembly Grinding!!!

Okay one day im coming home from work and its starting to get dark enough for the lights to be on well.... i turn the lights on and they turn on and flip up just fine. Well i get home and then i turn the lights off and i hear a grinding sound with they go down, almost like the motor is just spinning right on top of the gear and is shreading the gear? .... BUT i dont know for sure so im asking you guys if you might know what the problem is. will i need a new assmebly or will i just need a new motor?

They lights go up and down, but the grinding sound is just with they go down completly then the sound starts. Very loud... also when i push the keyless entry button both headlamps go up and come back down and then it starts grinding

lolz it might help to read the stickies :D well other then that, you could just leave em up forever... (Cut the power line..)

That stickie is only for third gens. I have the same problem.
It's your gear, there plastic so that means they're worn.

mine did the same ting, when i hit to lock it the head light would go out, the motor was bad.

3rd and 4th gen headlights arent the same? i was pretty sure they were.. O_o well then again. i havent seen the 4th gen headlight

My 96 did the same thing. Bad news $550 in new motor/gearbox assy's. Good news worked perfect ever since. Not a part that I wanted to get at the bone yard.

Nah the 3rd gen uses the bushing and the 4th gen uses a plastic gear. Also the 3rd gen you can take apart the motor assy. the 4th gens werent made to be taken apart but it can be done. If you want to look more into that link i posted above has more insight on it.
