Replacing airbags 2000 Cavalier

My daughter had a minor front end bump in her 2000 Cavalier. Hardly any damage to the car, but she must have hit just right to deploy both airbags. I have located replacement bags and the module. Is there anything else I need to replace/check? I'm afraid if I install these they will just go off again, since I haven't fixed the place where she hit in the front.

my best advice that most people don't agree with. get a different steering wheel and say screw the airbags but most people like them

You have better car insurance if you have the airbags. You will probally have to replace the clockspring also. You do not have to replace the sensors in the front, they are good if hit a certain amount of inches.I know this,my neighbor is a body man that knows this stuff

Before you try to put airbags in have the air bag system tested.
It would be better to let someone that is trained in airbag repair test the system and plug them up for you.
Some systems the air bag module is a one time trip and may need replaced with new air bags.
Also a crash sensor or wiring could be shorted out.
So have the system checked out and tested to be on safe side.
Another note some states it is illegal to install used air bags.

Bags and module is all you need.Make sure the numbers are the same.Check front sensors and wire harness to be sure they are intact.Make sure to disconnect the battery before you install your new bags and module.

How hard is it to replace the airbags? I've got the same problem with my son's car. The garage where it was towed said it's not worth it to have them replaced. I'm not giving up that easy!!!!

Welcome to AF.
A few tips to help you get started on the right foot.
Always check the date on a post before posting back to it.
This post is almost 2 years old.
If a post is old let sleeping dogs sleep.

And if you have a problem on your car start a new thread.
And some one will help you.
Do not hijack someone elses thread.
Two cars on one thread can get confusing.
And give all information you can. like one or two air bags blowed.
Has the system been tested for what all it needs and a estiamate given.
Is insurance picking up the tab?

Also sir systems should be left to a perfessional for repair.
They can kill you or save your life in a split second.

Air bag replacement can be a high priced repair.
Used air bag replacement is illegal in most places.
Hit the New thread button and give us the info on you car.
