95 Astro Signal lights issues....

so i just get my van back from getting a fully rebuilt tranny and a used engine put in... *don't ask. :(* and then it started to do a little engine coolant leaking... took it to the shop and they said that my water pump was going, but it has not leaked since are they lying to me?
anyhow, on to the current issue. i was just on my way to my friends place and my van started to die, my heart droped and there would be no transfer of power to anything, it did not want to move forward, then it stalled. so i started it up again, and it did it again. same deal, would step on the gas and it would continue to work as if the tranny was blown. the third time i started it, it moved fine, got it back to my place, checked it out and it seemed ok. so i drove it over to my friends place. nothing like the stalling non-moving van this time, but i was signaling to turn and the lights inside stoped blinking...
so in essence when i hit the turn signals right now the light will come on, but will not blink. and the stalling has me worried. it's an automatic, rear wheel drive, 95 astro. would this possibly be a problem with an ECU? and if so, when they replaced the engine would they have put the one from my old engine in or would they have given me the one that was with the used engine?

i was just checking my manual again and found that it may be just a bulb for the signal light... but then why would both still be out? and regardless this stalling and dieing of an automatic scares me yet... esspecially with just having put 6 grand worth of work into a van that is worth 2 grand.... on a university students budget....
Edit:
oh and i just also saw another post that says it might be the flasher componet... if so, how much would one of those puppies cost and where would it be located on a 95 astro.... in the fuse box under the driver side? cause there is this silver drum there about the size of a half inch coupler for plumbing, and it is not talked about on the fuse description in the manual for some reason...
also where would i be able to find one of them? canadian tire? or would a place like NAPA be better off...
