Turbo Kits 00-01 Tib

Hi... I've been looking around the internet trying to find some good info about turbo kits and other car modifications. I have a few questions regarding mods, and turbo kits in specific (I'm sure these are newbie questions and y'all will have no trouble answering them ):

1) When a turbo kit is listed as 170-180 whp, does that mean it ADDS 170-180, or that it brings the car to 170-180 total... my guess is the latter, because a 170 increase seems a bit excessive .

2) What are the danger risks for normal driving with a turbo kit installed? I can't afford two cars, and I'll need to get to and from work. Sharkracing.com says the kits are not meant for street driving, so I want to know if I would be putting my life on the line.

3) What modifications are available for an automatic four-cylinder? Like I said, I cannot afford two cars, and I never learned how to drive a manual (and nobody I know trusts me enough to teach me...lol).

4) I'd just like to know a ballpark range for final horsepower after all possible mods... by "all possible", I mean the best ones I could get for $3000-4000 per part maximum (can't afford two cars, no, but I can save for this shtuff... and I might be getting this car for graduation)

5) Is there a good website online, or any books where I can learn more about car tuning and modification? I can read these forums, but the language/terminology is a bit above me.

I think that's it... PLEASE speak as SIMPLY as possible when you respond... respond like you're explaining this to an average ten-year old; like I said, all the terminology is above me.

Thanks much for all your help!!

i answered your questions in the quote:

- it brings teh car up to 170-180 whp

2) What are the danger risks for normal driving with a turbo kit installed? I can't afford two cars, and I'll need to get to and from work. Sharkracing.com says the kits are not meant for street driving, so I want to know if I would be putting my life on the line.

-they say not for street use, because certain kits may be potentially illegal in some states.... you might want to get some driving experience under your belt.. a minor turbo kit wont be that hard to handle.. but i know nothing about your past skills (if any) so jus take it easy till you get the feel of teh car and youll be fine

3) What modifications are available for an automatic four-cylinder? Like I said, I cannot afford two cars, and I never learned how to drive a manual (and nobody I know trusts me enough to teach me...lol).

-any modification you want to put to your 4cyl.. but you wont need to buy cltches everytime it burns out... but if you trash your automatic transmission, youll have a whole transmission to replace so be careful

4) I'd just like to know a ballpark range for final horsepower after all possible mods... by "all possible", I mean the best ones I could get for $3000-4000 per part maximum (can't afford two cars, no, but I can save for this shtuff... and I might be getting this car for graduation)

jus get teh car, and keep saving up, the more you save up, the more options there are going to be for you...

5) Is there a good website online, or any books where I can learn more about car tuning and modification? I can read these forums, but the language/terminology is a bit above me.

corky bell- maximum boost, its a good read, everytime you read it youll learn somethign new...

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

On another note, I've decided today I am DEFINITELY going to learn how to drive a manual... I just had the opportunity to test drive a Mazda 3 with the Sport AT transmission. I NEVER knew being able to shift the transmission would be THAT MUCH fun! Wow, now I REALLY can't wait to get a Tiburon!!! I'm not going to sleep tonight, I am pumped! *takes deep breath*

Sorry for going on like that =D

now wait until you get into a real manual...lol. those sportronic auto trannies are junk when compared to a regular manual.

a GREAT place for you will be www.howstuffworks.com

go there, type in "engine", and read until you understand. they have a great section on turbocharging too. manual transmission as well. that place is awesome. interactive pictures and everything.
