Today I was at lunch in my High School when the local "Street Racers" came over to my table. The "leader" asked me if I thought I was fast, "Uh, no man I don't drive". He replied that heard I was talking smack about his Honda (bone stock D15 SOHC). "Yeah maybe it is pretty slow". At this point in time he was pissed. He said he heard I was working on "Import Killer" V8 and that it didn't have a prayer against his buddies 240 (also stock with painted interior). I told him that the Cutlass wasn't quite ready yet. He then proceeded to tell me that I was backing down from a challenge. Now I'm pissed, I inform him the Cutlass isn't mine it is my buddies I'm just building the motor (383 Stroker), and that if he wan'ts to run it then he will need to talk to him. He then calls me a bitch and informs me of his mad double clutch technique that can waste V8's. I was sick of the BS at this point and told him that I could drag him faster than his piece of shit will go and walked away. Moral of the story BS sucks. Anyway you guys ever hear so much BS that it actually stops being funny and becomes very irritating?

There's a kid at my school like that with a POS mid 60's stang with the 5.0L. It sounds like sh*t. He keeps bragging about how its not street legal (like its so fast when in fact it just doesnt have any cats). Its a rebuilt engine (stock) and says its so powerful it only gets 2-3 mpg. Every time I asked him if he'd race my 3kgt (though I almost always let others "challenge" me, but I just want to kick some ass where ass deserves to be kicked) he comes up with some excuse like he's working on it. I just give up and dont give a rats ass about people like that.

When fixed up yes they are. This stang has an ugly faded green paint job, ripped to all hell interior, and an POS engine (which I believe he bought for $225). Now that I think about it its kind of like a Joe Dirt car except its a Ford.

:disappoin its a shame to see a ricer get his hands on a classic like that. there was a kid at my old high school that had a old firebird like that though, the car could have been pretty cool if he just fixed the damn thing up.

Wow...just wow...
Double clutching? I've heard if done right and fast enough you can get it to work but that's a big IF. I don't know though maybe I'm thinking of something else. As stated, sounds like too much F&F for this guy.
Try this number though, it worked back in the day. Tell him he's a pussy for using a clutch and real racers bang shift. Maybe he'll try it and ruin his transmission :dunno:

lol if you got him to do that it would be hilarious.
double clutching is when you dont have synchros and your slowing down, you push the clutch in, take it outa gear and let the clutch out and get the revs up to match engine speed, then put the clutch back in and downshift. i dont believe there would ever be any reason to do it accelerating, as the revs are already up.

The Cutlass should be done this week so I'll get my buddy to race him over the weekend and I've started spreading the word about how much better speed shifting is so I'll see if it catches and the rice start to talk about that too (I told one guy how to double clutch and suddenly the whole school knows how to do it). So hopefully I'll be back to tell you guys about the race.

For upshifting its pointless and slow, for downshifting not only does it make the down shift that much smoother, but it also allows for a much smoother Multi-gear down shift.... not to mention its simply being nice to your syncros. (Even in racing down shifts should be un-hurried any way) Fun thing about double clutching is that when you tie it in with heel toe when coming in to a turn, its like a little dance on the pedals :iceslolan

no not same affect, when you let the clutch out it engages the engine with the tranny, so the engine and the tranny are moving at the same speed. if the clutch is in and you rev it then the engine is going to be moving faster. i think thats how it works. maybe someone can explain it better.

If you only rev-match the down shift, as you described. all you are syncing is the engine RPMs to clutch RPM's. If you double clutch, and rev when the cars in nutural, you are syncing the Engine, the clutch and the imput shaft's RPMs to the output shaft's RPMs. meaning with a double clutch, you are doing most of the job of the syncros for them. (the syncros job is to match the imput shaft speed to the output shaft speed so you can swap gears)

The thing is with modern trannys that if you heel-toe without using the double clutch method you will still obtain a nice smooth down shift. This is the most important part, a smooth downshift. It's much more simple to not double clutch, although double clutching is overall more effective. Either way to do it works fine.
But now we're completely off the topic at hand. When are you supposed to race this turd?

true, it works fine for a single gear down shift, but for a mutliple gear down shift double clutching is the way to go. (saves them synchros)

My buddy got a camera for Christmas so we'll use that. But on second thought maybe breaking in the engine in the car as well as on the stand would be better. So I guess it gets postponed till next weekend oh well the eBay junk should be here (tach,MSD 6T,speedometer) soon so we'll wait. The motor is finished and just needs to go in provided he can pay his bill ($1236).

!UPDATE!
I have now been challenged by the racers secret weapon. The car that no one wants to run with, the car that is so fast that it stomps everything, the car that is all JDM parts, the car that is a stock 240 auto that is primered with a spoiler. When I asked to be shown the car that was going to whoop my ass I literally busted out laughing and buckled over. Not because it's slow or anything but for the Silvia front end conversion kit he had on it. You know the cheesy one with the headlights and Silvia sticker, well the only problem is that it is a hatchback 240! He had a blank stare when I asked if he had ever played Initial D. When he said no I realized he had no idea what the difference between a Silvia and a 180 were and was unaware of the existence of a coupe 240. Anyway he says that he's gonna kick my ass now so we'll have to see.

I realise it is long time in coming but the kid finally put 1000 miles on the Cutlass the other day and decided that was enough and lined up with the 240 at The Box the local street drag stip. It was a great race and I wish I had video for you guys but I can't figure out my damn camera, but anyway the Cutlass passed the test with flying colors it laid waste to that primered 240 and did a huge burnout right in front of the rest the local "racers". But it didn't really solve the problem now all I hear "is that guy was cheating" and "he used NOS" but ohwell maybe someday these guys will leave me alone when they finally realise being a McDonald's cashier isn't really a good career move.
