i have a 2.3 liter SOHC engine in my 93 GA SE my professor says that it has a cracked block im not so sure that it is but anyway i am wondering is the DOHC engine the same BLOCK as the SOHC engine an can u swap the block from the DOHC engine keep the old head an manifolds an all the acessories from the SOHC or could i easily just swap the DOHC into the car w/o having to change wiring harnesses or anything? do the mounts an stuff line up right does anyone know or have dont it plz let me know soon cause there is a limited time that i have access to the DOHC engine.
note: im not sure what the DOHC engine came out of thinking maybe a GA or baretta not sure but both are 2.3L engines

If its a 93 block, all your sohc stuff will fit on it without a problem, but make sure its a 93, if not grab the entire motor, if the donor car is another grand am grab the wiring harnesses (dash and engine) and the computer. Good luck, its going to be a time consuming job.

the DOHC engine is just that an engine not sure what year or what its out of my teacher got it from a junkyard i think but we did a mockup rebuild on it (no gaskets or new parts just a strip down and buildup did all the stuff u are supposed to IE ring ridge removal, cylinder hone etc) if i could get by with swaping the block id rather do that an get a rebuild kit then having do swap the whole engine cause the DOHC engine has some broken parts that i would have to replace the water pump is cracked and the crank doesnt turn - there is just a bind somewhere.

i take it you have a 2.3L quad 4 SOHC 120hp (L40). If you want to go DOHC you can pick up just about any 2.3L quad 4, there is the 2.3L quad 4 LO 150hp(LD2) or 2.3L quad 4 HO 180hp(LGO) or even a 2.3L quad 4 W41 190hp(W41).
Follow this link for all the cars that had quad 4s in them.

here is a link to help identify the quad motor you have by casting numbers..
http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/ar40032.htm
Atleast then you can see if its the same casting number as yours, im not sure the machining differences between a DOHC & SOHC block, identify your motor & do some comparison of parts used in each (pistons, rods, crank). Sorry man I don't have the answer your looking for, but with a little work you can find the answer yourself.
